Opinions on the budget & who best to have at the wheel

    Hi all,

    Was listning to Newstalk this morning where the head of Siptu was giving it loads about ahh yeah increase taxes, when Ivan Yeates asked about a renage on the Croker Aggreement he simple said I cant see that happening..Fair enough the man has to work for his dough.

    But on a happier note was John Bruton FG. Now I have been posting on here before stating that I didnt vote in the last election as I thaught there were all useless, but some of the stuff he was saying got me thinking of voting FG in the next election

    12 billion cuts/savings through a public sector reform starting at the government level ...I nearly got a hard on at this comment but when he stated that FG want to abolish the HSE I had to pull over as I exploded in my Jocks...

    I am trying to get a feel for which way the wind is blowing.
    FF are fecked
    Labour are non committal at the moment
    FG seem to at least looking to tackle the difficault options that FF will not touch.

    If only Damn Enda would step down...

    Sadly it is easy to talk but harder to walk; they can make all kind of glorious promises etc. but until I see a detailed implementation plan all you've got is a nice soundbit and another committee coming your way :(

    The way i see it is FF wont tackle waste in the public service as this government has only 9 months left at most(1 budget and 3 byelections next april?). Labour wont commit to anything other than 'we are against that sort of stuff' but it is looking more like they MAY come out with a 4 year plan. As a lapsed blueshirt it is looking more like i will be back in the fold before long as at least we have an indication what they are thinking. I dont like varadker but i was impressed with his presentation in kenmare. And as for enda... I actually like the man. Do we need another media locust(not the word i was going to use) like bertie again or a chairman who lets others take responsibility for the jobs they are doing? FG isnt a one man party(i hope). I will wait and base my vote on what is shown in the different parties 4 year plans;)

    yeah definately will wait till after the budget and see how things pan out, just saying that FG seem to be making the right noise at the moment

    i agree.

    imo leo vradker & simon coveney are the future of politics in this country and ill be voting FG despite kenny

    I think Labours lack of response and non committal attitude could cause them this election as at the moment it is theirs to lose

    I think the other way around honestly; do you think people want to hear "You're going to have to pay 10% more taxes if you vote us in!!111" or "We'll do something but don't worry you'll not feel the pain"? Most people know something has to be done and any one promising that they will not feel it will be winners...

    Nah I would call you on that one Nody, I think the majority of people in Ireland realise what a sh1t state we are in as I said previous I think FF are fecked, labour are saying nothing and FG are for me personally saying the right things in how to deal with this crisis.

    I think labour have the market share up till now I bet if they do not come out with anything resembling how they will sort out this mess there support will wane towards FG

    Main advantage of tax increases that it will kill economy more quickly and next government will not have much choices, except much deeper cuts in public sector, then it would be without tax increases

    Boards.ie is does not represent Ireland and this sub forum I'd argue have a higher over all understanding and knowledge on the economical status then the over all Irish population. Having said that these two qoutes are from this thread, post 17 and 18 respectively. The thread is about implementation of a property tax (which is generally considered a very stable income base for a state to have).

    If you need to raise funds then set several bands of tax based on real earnings which increase as you earn more.
    I still argue that yes, people agree what a bad state we're in but no one will ever accept paying for it; hence love and green forests with pain for someone else will always trump honest promises of what cuts will need to be done.
