hi just wondering your opion on buying a few sheep to open back up sheep flock number. we had sheep bout ten years ago and not any more but with all the payments going to change and whatnot going on thought it might be worth looking into. we do not have any mountaine rights, was thinking of buying maybe ten ped ewes, it would be just for hobbie as have sucklers already, what you think

Not to hijack your thread mate but we got out of sheep this year for a "break" and upped the number of cattle for a while. (change tends to be good):D I was wondering how long is it before one loses a flock number?

I think its only a matter of contacting the dept to re open the flock number but documents could be a while coming as they are 'updating' the register and movement documents to reflect E-tags which you would have to put on your new purchases. And in fairness, sheep are a great way of meeting the neighbours:)

I've noticed a surge in sheep numbers in these parts over the past year - I wonder what this will mean for prices next year:confused:
