Played the ISC in Wicklow, f**king desaster!!!!!!! I shot 90 off of 15 which is not too bad but it took 5 hours for the round!!!!! I couldn't believe how slow it was! Its my home course and we really should have had a ranger. And 20euro for visitors was a joke! 15 would have been fair.

Course was in average condition but the state of some of the bunkers was a joke and they definitely should have been gur and I didn't even go into 1! Very disappointed. Also visitors were not informed of the recent change to the local rules that paths are in play!

    Over all very disappointed.

    Over all very disappointed.

First time playing Wicklow today , was a long round but that is to be expected in strokeplay especially fourballs going out.
Went out last and thankfully we joined up with a member who knew the place and was able to tell us if a ball be found after wayward drive etc
Spectacular views on the course ,that Pebble Beach hole drive is amazing and hit a beauty on it !

Darkness was setting in rapidly on us and kind of rushed it a fair bit last few holes and losing interest etc
Thought the course was in great nick for first time playing there, did'nt hit a bunker or realise if they were in a bad state.

Think the Blue marker distances are about right for the course, would imagine White markers on alot of holes be alot shorter.

Actually on the 12th my second shot hit a path on side of green and dropped in the drop zone behind the green but to be told by another player who was chatting to the member player that i would incur a shot penlaty, anyway went into the bar afterwards and told the fella doing the cards what happened and he rectified the card, had a crap score anyway but honesty is what counts imo and yes still would of done it if i had a great score.

    Playing off 18
45 on front nine ,disaster on 2nd hole after great drive
55 on back nine ( definitely down to rushing ,darkness etc,)
Was gunning for a score of 90 or lower and reckon i would of got that had i been out a hour earlier)
All in all ,it was usual inconsistency, good run of pars, bogeys and then 7's,8's and a 9 etc

First time playing in a Intermediate and was a great experience.
Definitely go back down to play there again sometime.

    Wonder what won it anyway?

77 gross for a net 67 won it.

The difference between the whites and blues on a lot of holes is very little, 1-5 maybe 5-7yards. 6th massive difference. 7th & 8th big difference. 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th maybe 5-7 yards. 15th big difference maybe 20-25yards. 16 no difference. 17th you actually played from the white, the blue marker is 12yards longer and brings the wind into play more. 18th no difference. The greens on the other hand are very short!

Can't argue with that knowledge !
Great score and congrats to the winner.
The greens maybe short but by god they they are tricky :D
Was some craic on that par 3 9th i think it was, hit a cracking 5iron but hit the top of the slope and rolled all way back to bottom of the green, 2 others hit bottom of the green only for the putts not to get up over the slope, back again one rolled into the bunker, again and again kept rolling back with each attempt :D:D
The other fella chipped in for a two off the side!
    Cruel game !

I'd guess its the par 3 7th, which has a 2 tear green with about a 2meter difference in height between the bottom tier and the top tier. I always say if you hit the wrong level of that green be happy with 4. I've seen a guy end up in the bunker 3 times on that hole!

there was some vicious pins out there on saturday alright. I enjoyed the day very much was +6 heading to 15 and proceeded to throw it all away. birdied 5 & 6 and was really getting going to the turn but it didnt happen.

the pins on the par 3 7th and par 3 9th were devilish - particularly on seven. I'd it wrecked alot of cards.....

The course itself was in great nick and a credit to the staff there. No real difference off the backs to be honest, its a very short course. big difference is off 6 I suppose but why the hell are the whites not off that tee?

Anyways thanks to the op for this, it was great fun

Anyone playing the Intermediate (11-18) this w/end at Beech Park? Haven't played the course before - any opinions on that too? Tks.

Not playing there but Naas on Sat but I have played competition there, the greens will be the issue for you, lot of them do not break as they look, recommend that you get a practice in beforehand. In general everything breaks down with the general slope, even when it doesn't look it. THe 9th green springs to mind, breaks a lot towards the clubhouse for example but a lot of putts might look like they break toward the forest.

Thanks Sector, appreciate that. Took your advice and booked in for a round on Fri.

    Cheers.

Played too, have to say the wind made it very tough and removed a little of the enjoyment... greens were so slick and sick pin positions on some holes.... course was in great condition..not sure how you could say otherwise.... hope all the non members enjoyed it... it was super-hella slow... but hey not everyone knew their way around!

BTW I was shocking (well 3 poor holes) if I could just stop those 3 bad holes in strokes!

Have just scraped back out to 4 so going to give this a go. Long time since I played Balbriggan, hopefully it's in good condition.

Weather doesn't look to bad for the rest of the week.

It's been completely redeveloped so might not be anything like you remember, good test over 36 holes, lot more water than there used to be

No couldn't play. Played on the Thursday before and got cut back to 3 so withdrew.

    Were conditions that tough?

i didn't play myself but huge rain last friday so would imagine it was playing long. Couple of the par threes go from being 8 iron and 7 iron to 3 or 4 irons off the back and both have water so it's tough enough. The visitor standard scratch went to 76 in first round!

It looks like thats it for another year. The scratch cups are in my opinion the best competitions in golf and am gonna miss em. Enjoy the winter golf guys, see ya next year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Sammo13

Well, last JSC of the year, have not played them well this year.

Was in Charlesland 3 weeks ago, +3 thru 12 (off 6) and looking for a 75/76 when I take a 7 on the par 3.... Head recked, summed up my golf season.

So tomorrow I look forward to attacking Arklow from the get go, love playing this Links, try to play it once a year, fine challenge from the blue markers..

Just a pity the reigning champ is too low to defend his title
Won it last year becuse I played before the rain. Won a fantastic Waterford Crystal trophy but couldn't risk bringing home to a house with 3 kids and I also won a "Scotty Cammeron" putter whic turned out to be a fake:mad: . . . Wrote to the Club just to let them know but never got a reply . . .Still a great course though and a well run competition.:)

Arklow was a picture yesterday, very tough lay out, all the flags were hanging of the greens. With a breeze, course was playing quite difficult, so you quessed it, I didn't get close to winning (83)

I didn't here who won, but will post result when I do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Sammo13

    74 (+5) Won it, 77 was 2nd and 3rd, 78 4th..

Anyone know where to access the list for the Senior Scratch cups in 2011

Anyone know where to access the list for the Senior Scratch cups in 2011

    Go to www.gui.ie
    Click Open Fixtures
Do a search, leaving the date blank, the course blank, in the the Type of Event put "senior scratch" and you can limit it to your own province, or not.

It'll bring up all Senior Scratch Cups that have so far been submitted to the GUI.

As clubs confirm events to the GUI they'll pop up on this list. You're a bit early though.

Keep an eye out for the Topgolfer Junior & Senior scratch's . . . Some are listed already on topgolfer.ie already.

This year there is an Order of Merit running for the year. The events last year were top class.
