Nice. Shop spoiled bikes? I'm guessing that means bikes damaged by say, oh I don't know, Carlow girls getting their O'Neill's tracksuit bottoms stuck in the drivetrain and falling sideways on the road outside, much to Dave's horrified face. Or is it something else?

ha ha - dunno - shop soiled is usually just dusty isn't it? Been on display for ages so doesn't have that 'brand new' look any more...

Said tracksuit bottoms were ruined as a result - that'll be the black and yellow FELT, Bargain if you can afford to sacrifice a few hours with a tweezers and an magnifying glass...

Why don't you pop down, they might have a bike that's for you, plus you would get to sit on it and try it out rather than just buying over the interweb.

Leave the tracky bottoms at home.

And you really think they are going to let me within breathing distance of any of their road bikes after the O'Neills/Felt/Road Kill incident??... No, didn't think so either - hence I am now limited to purchasing via the web!

Yeah saw this today and scoffed thinking here we go Landrover mountain bike again but nostalgia got me thinking holy moley these guys were the original work horses of the peloton, remember Roche's sponsorship debacle when he moved from Peugeot to Carrera. Ahh them's the days....

Had my closest near miss tonight. I was at the head of a road, lights went green, off I went. Was around 60m from a side road up ahead on the left. Car was sticking out a bit. Driver was looking to join the traffic going in opposite direction to me. I moved out to the middle/right middle of the left lane. Driver didn't look right while I was near enough to see. Started coming at me just as I was going by t-junction. I shouted, and she must have heard me, because the car was centimetres if not millimetres away from hitting me.

What the hell am I meant to do though? Had my Fenix on full blast at this stage, I was wearing fairly visible clothing, helmet is whiteish. She just didn't bother looking before moving out. If I had had to stop suddenly, the car behind me might have hit me.

Try and predict when the car will pull out based on the traffic flow. If you have no eye contact, assume you'll have to stop.

Alternatively, a pre-emptive headshot might work.

This is correct. There were a number of tell tale signs there even from your paragraphs to see what could possibly happen.

Chalk it down to experience and learn from it. Essentially you did nothing wrong, but you can learn from every incident how to stereotype and predict future ones.

I find this helpful (home-made, as you can probably guess). It gets the wrong sort of attention too, alas.

Just briefly pretend to scratch your face as you near the junction and the flashing light suddenly lifting up gets the attention. Or if you're really worried you can angle it so it's shining directly at them.

Hope you're OK. Diesel is a complete bastard. All you can do is try to stay upright and keep moving. Any attempt to change direction or brake, and Game Over. Unforunately they tend to appear at lights or on roundabouts, so "do nothing" is rarely an option.

I've noticed quite a few patches on some roads recently that appear dodgy - probably oil - there seem to be a few more tractors on the road at present, which are more prone to dripping the stuff onto the roads

yeah but also with the misty-damp weather it means the oil/diesel is sitting on top of a greasy surface. Hope you are alrite ed.

Got what i thought was a puncture today on the way into work, but as the tyre was holding air ok i stayed going and was just careful not to go too hard on it. When i eventually got around to fixing it i found the part of the valve that usually sticks out had broken off. the tube was only in for about a week

Just wondered if this has happened to many of you others out there?

You talking about the little screw in thing on the Presta valves? If so, then yes, I had that a couple of weeks back. Tube was a half year old though at least.

Typically happens (or noticed) when you decide to leave pumping up the tyres till the morning

I passed a spill on the R122 on Monday evening. Between the Ashbourne road and St. Margarets on the citybound side on a left hand bend...

Millars Pizza Kitchen. Baggot St Dublin.

Worst pizza ever. Obnoxious service. I have sometimes recommended restaurants where I have enjoyed a nice place. Millars however is vile, grotty and produce cardboard ****e with bitter tomato sauce masquerading as pizza. All for 14 euro. The waiter was also a charmer.

If you like food then avoid. If you like eating crap then knock yourself out.

Why are so many people looking for full whack on their second hand bike? Is there really people that stupid paying in some cases more than a new one?

Millars used to be nice, had a good reputation too. Having said that it's been at least 2 or 3 years since I last ate there so like a lot of places it's probably gone well down hill thinking it doesn't have to try anymore.
