problem with windows xp netbook

when i switch on my windowsxp netbook it gives me the various users icons, but when i select one with password etc the screen goes to show a blank windows back ground with no icons, yet the cursor for mouse is operating, but cant use pc, i would appreciate help on this please, by pressing ctrl alt del windows task manager…

Can you boot into safe mode?

From Task Manager try clicking File > New Task (Run....) and typing explorer.exe into the box

thank you user friendly i moved this discussion to computers & technology/laptops, where your 1st suggestion was tried to no avail, although this all started with the secure tool virus.
