Trinity in Films

    I caught a few minutes of Shake Hands with the Devil on TCM earlier. There is at least one long scene filmed in the grounds of Trinity, where one medical student is trying to coax another into joining the fight against the Black and Tans.

    James Cagney plays a medical lecturer. At one point he sarkily suggests that an inattentive student might like to transfer to Political Science in "University College". This is met with much the same sniggering it would attract now.

    There's also a scene in pub which I think might be the Stag's Head.

    It's on again later on TCM 2 if anyone is interested. It made me wonder about other films or TV shows set or shot around Trinity. I know some of Educating Rita was filmed here, although it was set in Liverpool, and I believe there was a scene or two in the first series of Raw.

    Does anyone know of other appearances? Is there a list somewhere?

    Educating Rita - GMB & Exam Hall plus the old car park of Pearse station which is now the courtyard in Goldsmith Hall (watch out for the red post box but a CIE bus in the background)

    First Great Train Robbery - Last scene is the front steps of the dining hall, then Front Square with added sheep

    Circle of Friends - Stairs of Museum building + Chemistry lecture theatre

    Why, thank you.

    Thanks to everyone for the suggestions too. It would be great to cut together a sequence of scenes from all the movies. I suspect the surprising thing would be how little the physical fabric of Trinity has changed over the years, at least in the areas anyone is likely to film.

    You're right. You can recognise the bar there, but without the cowl thing over the tills. Smashing film.
