Just watched the start of the news and am shocked at the slant given to us by our national broadcaster:

Brief mention of 'cementgate' and the protest greeting returning TDs.
But more emphasis given to the "bodyblow to Enda Kenny" in the latest Irish Times poll. Its seems Enda has dropped to only 6% higher than Brian Cowen.

    Fianna FAIL propaganda tool.

I thought exactly the same. Unbelievable. It galls me that my licence money is contributing to the support of the FF propaganda machine that RTE has become.
Mary Wilson gave Mary Hanafin a nice friendly soft interview today too.
    They'd sicken you.

It's the third poll in a week, so it's hardly a top story.
Enda has to deal with enemies Hayes, Bruton and co. and fight FF. A thankless task.
FG decision to back the bank gaurantee is his biggest mistake, since Bruton was Finance spokesman at the time his enemies have nothing to b;tch about.

Not surprising Labour are on top again, Pat Rabitte said something interesting on the Frontline on Monday saying Labour would nationalise AIB.
Not even covered in the FF press.
FF can Bullsh;t all they like but the gaurantee is all about saving AIB not the taxpayer

I was shocked myself as they used the verb 'rammed' to very briefly and inaccurately describe the events of this morning.

Sloppy journalism, but hey, it's RTE.

I really think the media are generally/really hyping up the "bad mood syndrome"
The UK are generally in a worse situation than Ireland and having spent some time over there recently...............Belive if you may ,Not every news highlight is of the economy. There is more to life in the UK.
Talk it down............down we are going,
Talk it up.............. at least public sentiment improves.
Confidence has to be achieved however small it may be...but every little bit of positivety may just leave the next guy a bit better.;)

From my point of view, and I'm by no means a FF supporter, the most interesting things about the polls are that Labour seem to be doing the best and that FG are getting a hammering.

Also, the Taoiseach's reply to the question - "will the government survive to the bi-election" - he gave a very half hearted "absolutely" and a stoic grin before walking on. Not exactly a show of confidence.

Guys, if you want proper news put together by real journalists then do NOT look to RTE. If, however, you want to see a closed shop filled with arrogant fools then put on the kettle at 5 to 6 and make yourself comfortable. Your TV licence fees are about to be put to use educating the nation in obsequiousness.

It's a shame. Rte news was always pretty impartial. Try watching BBC news: they have started quoting emails from viewers. '...and Amanda from Southampton said 'you should have seen him necking pints at 3am...'' that type of thing

To be fair 'cementgate' happened 12 hours earlier and there wasn't much less to the story. The only thing news worthy about the protests is how small the protests were. The poll is big news as the man that was nearly guaranteed to be the next taoiseach a year ago is now struggling to stay ahead of a party that has caused one of the biggest financial crisis in the western world.

RTE was always biased, not only when it comes to the economy but when it came to other political matters such as N. Ireland, Israel etc.
A lot of people would have heard of the truck on the radio news during the day, and would have wanted to see on the evening news, the first time to see the news all day, pictures of what happened, the reaction from our highly paid politicians and public servants etc.

Same this morning with FF's chief lacky, Tubridy.
He kicks off with a anti FG rant before even mentioning the bailout.

RTE can't be trusted, they should be held to account for this

RTE text this morning using the figure of 29 billion not 34 billion next to Anglo story..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,019 ✭✭✭who_ru

RTE has always and will always be an extension of the the Govt, although their bias towards FF has been fairly cranked up these last few months. if an election does happen then you can forget about ever having a fair & impartial news service from rte. their business is the dissemination of FF spin, lies and stupidity.

That's the range that was suggested. It could go as high as 34

    Yes

    1. they are so incompetent they cant nail down a more precise figure, 5 billion is alot of money, it seems the govt forgot that!

    2. RTE are using the most conservative "estimate" hence painting the govt in better light, all other publications were more "neutral" and quoted 29-34 in titles and articles

RTE got it right. The complete ineptness of Kenny and FG to make gains in the poll was the biggest story.

FG should have over 50% voting intention in the polls now and their leader should have a satisfaction rating of 70-80%, but they don't. I need not say why...

They're barely above FF even though FF are (rightly) widely despised and blamed for the situation we find ourselves in.

If FG can't make hay now, they might as well all give up and go home.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

i understand the point, Re : RTE Fianna fail tool. How do we explain the rough ride miriam o callaghan gave lennihan last nite?? or in general?? Prime time is on RTE yet Miriam O callaghan lashes into them.

While Tubridy pats bertie on the back, oh ya loveable rorgue youuuuu!

FG's biggest mistake was not voting Burton in as leader, instead we got this 'our boy won *wink wink nudge nudge*' crap from FG.

where kenny really fcuked up in my eyes was when he traded positions in the shadow cabinet for votes in the leadership issue, then the boyhos accepted the bribe, oh sorry the positions in the shadow cabinet.
