time limit on crash claim

Just listening to the guys in the office chatting this morn and the issue of crashes came up as one of the guys partners was in a crash a while back.

I was wondering if there is a time limit between a motor incident occuring and someone claiming on it.

If for example someone was in a crash at the start of the year and all of a sudden an injured party appears now and wants to claim, can they do it?

Is there a time limit and if so how long is it?

Im not sure if there is a definate time frame, but you are supposed to notify them of the incident pretty much straight away, even if you dont plan on claiming. Recently someone tried to steal my car and in the process made ****e of the handle. I wasnt sure how much it was going to cost to get repaired, and contacted my insurance company who told me that if I was intending to make a claim or even if I wasnt sure, Id need to let them know fairly quickly, or else I wouldnt be able to go to them later on to make the claim.

Put it this way, if you have an accident that may involve 3rd party injuries then notify your insurance company. The third party has quite a bit of time to register a claim (6 months I think, maybe even longer) and if you havent notified your insurance company of the accident then they may well refuse to pay out for the claim.

Thought is was 2 years but this could have been mis-information given to me.

It's 2 years from the date of the accident, then its statute barred.
