A bit of a strange problem.

A fresh install of windows2000 on to a blank HD.
All works lovely and nice BUT:

Ctrl-alt-del: does nothing when you select task manager
    Start> Run> tskmgr.exe = no joy
    ctrl-shift-esc = nope

no error message, nothing. It just sits there and does nothing. not even HD access.

    any ideas?

ps. double clicking on the task manager exe does nothing either. Hourglass for 1 second then back to normal.

make sure that you have a registry entry such as this set up accordingly, someone could have fiddled with it perhaps?

    Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
    Name: DisableTaskMgr
    Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0=Disablethis key, that is Don't Disable, Enable TaskManager

    thanks for the reply.

    but,

there is no registry entry for task manager in there :(

or is this a completely new entry I should put in? If it is supposed to be there already, someone could have deleted it I suppose.

did you install 2000 with a OS cd or a Restore CD?

    used an OS CD.

(it was a fresh build and install)

I take it the reg key didn't do the trick then?
