    Hi all,

Myself and my boyfriend are planning a midweek break in Castlebar in early October. I haven't been there in years so I was wondering if we could get any advice on where to go and what to do? Recommendations on pubs, restaurants etc would be great as well as any other activities. Unfortunately google hasn't been much help so some local knowledge might get us a bit more info!

    Thanks,

    Jo.

During the summer, midweek in Castlebar is useless but now that the college is back there may be some stuff going on during the week. The Irish House would be the main "Student" pub so call in there to check whats on, they normally have DJs etc. For a lovely quiet pint of Guinness check out either the Cobweb or Johnny McHales. For food there isnt a huge amount of choice, Dhaka is a good Indian, An Carraig is nice too. Check out the bulletin board on http://www.castlebar.ie for other events closer to the time. Maybe post something there for more ideas? Also, check out if there is anything on in the TFhttp://www.theroyal.ie. The museum in Turlough also has events during the day http://www.museum.ie/en/list/turlough-park.aspx. If ye are into cycling the new cycle track going from Newport to Mulranny is very nice, you can rent out bikes in either location and there is a pub called Nevins about halfway along that do nice food. Ballintubber abbey (about 5 miles out the Ballinrobe road) is worth a look too. Thats all i can think of at the moment, will think about it and post if i come with anything else.
