I would love to think all the comments would put people off seeing this "has been fat fool" but i doubt it, people in this thread warned of the impending crap performance but people didn't listen, myself included!!

whats that old saying about fools and their money

Axl didn't acknowledge being late, this was the problem and so the crowd were entitled to boo. It was a two fingered salute to the Irish people. We have been ****ed for long enough and we sure as hell won't take being pissed on by a rock performer.*I stayed until they came back but I left soon after because he just stood there on one spot, going through the motions, which was even more insulting.*Throwing anything is wrong but MCD security should ensure this isn't possible, what for those that didn't throw anything?*Those who support Axl and his behaviour should leave him their money, the rest of us should get a refund. Foreward others for upcoming gigs to boycott this fool and hurt him where he feels it, in the pocket. *

How can you really expect security to pull up a couple of guys in a crowd of thousands? Also do you reeeeally expect him to take a face full of beer/piss and say 'well fair enough folks, I guess I was late.". I dont see how anyone is entitled to a refund, you assaulted the act, he gave you a warning (which he didnt have to do) and he was assaulted again. He left. I'm surprised he came back at all to be honest.

While I think Axl Rose's behaviour was awful, I think getting annoyed about the bottle/pint was totally reasonable. What kind of inbred moron pays money to go to a gig and assaults the band? I've been at several concerts where stuff was thrown, sometimes hitting the singer in the face and they all threatened to leave if it didn't stop. Why should they put up with that?

What a farce of a night. I dont think we have a pot to piss in, in terms of a refund. It was a memorable night in fairness.

This is mammy state state stuff. It's impossible to stop any object being thrown from a crowd. Do you want a security guard for every person? Another example how Irish crowds behave dreadfully at any music event and it does mean that people who do behave are the ones who lose out. Anyway it's the venue that provide the security in this case.

Full face of piss? Maybe he deserved that, beer, be a man lick your lips.

Look at Mike Patton singing with Faith No More in Chile on You Tube. Thousands of people spitting at him & throwing bottles, drenched in spit he sings away like nothings happened, now that's ROCK N' ROLL!...Bono laughed off a soaking in 2001, Justin Bieber laughed off a bottle in the head in 2010...but Axl can't hack it.

Was at the gig last night. Travelled up from Waterford with high hopes looking forward to the gig. Arrived at the o2 at 6.30 got in there at about 6.50 i had blueroom passes so I went in there for a while e6 for a pint of watered down carlsberg. I went out and listened to danko jones thought they were allright the singer was talking a lot of bull****e though (how proud do u people feel about walking the same streets as thin lizzy etc) i then went for a walk around and at about 9.30 I found a good view and waited there for the band to start. there were so many drunken idiots around the area I was standing one guy pissed in a cup and then dropped it on the ground and it went everywhere but I sisd to myself I would not be too bothered because guns n roses would come out and play a brilliant in which I've been waiting months to see. I wasant suprisrd about how late they were going to come on because I was following the tour on the Internet all year. So I as delighted when they came out and played Chinese dem and got very excited when I heard the intro to welcome to the jungle but I knew something was up when axel said stop and gave his warning. I though the crowd seemed really into the songs and I never felt so disapointed when he walked off stage after sorry. I felt in my heart he might come back on a few mineates later but then we had the 2 announcements by the mcd people and the the house lights came on so i left pesuming the concert was over feeling very annoyed. I even felt more annoyed when I heard that they came back on at 11.30 by that time was ages from the venue. Why didn't they announce something over the pa when the house lights came on like the show will continue. I believe it's the drunken idiots who through the bottles on stage fault for ruining my night why pay E80 to go get drunk and ruin the night for others. I would do almost would office anything to stay and watch the rest of the show but I would be left on my own walking the streets of Dublin at 12.30 at night and I really thought when the houselights came on the show was over. Today I still repesct axl rose the band the songs etc. I'm just so sad paying over e300 for tickets plus travel expenses food drink etc. I would go and see them live in ireland again because I love gnr but I really do think that was the last time we will see gnr in dublin.

I would imagine it's that Mr Ego doesn't like to be booed. People throwing bottles is a nice excuse to get off stage and save himself the embarassment.

If Axl had come on stage and said "good evening dublin, my sincere apologies for my tardiness, but if you will forgive me I will rock my socks off and put on the best gig this tour for you" then we'd have forgotten the wait within 5 minutes and all rocked along happily together.

His complete disrespect for the crowd means that he deserved every single bit of disrespect he got back.

Justin Bieber got hit in the head with a plastic bottle and kept playing.

Dont see why Axl couldnt say sorry we're late!

that's a strange thing thing to expect....could you imagine axl saying that?

Yeah you should really be alllowed do whatever the hell you want to him now.

Honestly I cannot see how people are justifying throwing **** at him. You're supposed to be his fans?

That's such complete bollocks and a joke if it flies. I boycott MCD already, haven't been to an MCD event since Radiohead, it just really seems that they have no interest in providing a fair deal for the punter.

MCD basically blaming the punters, as expected. No refunds.

right lets see what the courts say so

If what flies? What had MCD to do with people throwing stuff at the performers?

Watching the presenters talking about it on Midday, most of them agree that Axl/GNR are in the wrong and not the fans!

That sucks. Sorry to hear about that self inflated ego ruining the night. All I can say is remember this the next time they are scheduled to play Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,732 ✭✭✭rovers_runner

Whats the best way to proceed with this?

MCD - Not providing updates on schedule or confirmation of premature end of show
Ticketmaster - Only responsible for issuing refunds I'd say
o2/Security - Lack of organisation and not keeping venue secure for entire duration*

*I witnessed the taking apart of smoking area fencing at 11:20 which made the two doors nearest to the Luas accessable to anyone in the area.

I dont blame MCD. I blame the scumbag fans who threw stuff at Axl and I blam Axl himself for not being more professional and arriving on time or at lease apologising for the delay. At least MCD tried their hardest to get the show going again! If it didnt continue, they would have lost a fortune, not Axl, so I hope they learned their lesson and let someone else promote him next time......if there will be a next time

On another note....Axl still has an incredible voice!!!

GUNS N ROSES: STATEMENT ISSUED BY PROMOTERS MCD AND THE MANAGEMENT OF THE O2
    News last updated: 02-09-2010

    back to news

Statement issued by Promoters MCD & the management of The O2 regarding the Guns N' Roses concert at The 02, Dublin, Wednesday 1st September 2010.

Despite every effort being made by promoters to ensure Guns N' Roses would go on stage on time, they went on at 22.26hrs having been due to be on stage at 21.45hrs, support artist finished at 21:00hrs.

During the second song Axl requested members of crowd who were throwing plastic glass's containing unknown substances to immediately stop or he would have no option but to leave the stage. He confirmed band's wish to perform stating "we want to stay..one more bottle and we go home". Despite his continued appeals, having tried to continue performing for 22 minutes,
people continued throwing unknown substances leaving artist with no choice but to leave the stage.

From the stage MCD Promoter Denis Desmond again appealed to audience to refrain from throwing items and stated that the band would be back on stage shortly.

The artist was prevented from leaving the venue by the Promoter and following backstage discussions Guns N' Roses went back on stage at 23.20 hrs and performed their full set until 00.53 hrs.

While the artist has a long history for being late on stage (Slane 1992 - crowd waiting 2 hours and last weekend's UK Reading festival), NO artist should be subjected to missiles and unknown substances being thrown at them. However, despite this the band went back on stage after people stopped throwing items performing their full set of songs in full.

MCD and The 02 wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused due to late running of the show
