It's always the same, a small group of twats ruin it for everyone else. I can't even begin to count the number of gigs ruined by a small group of people who seem to be there more to get drunk and act the prick than anything else.
    .

Can't blame the audience here. Axl is an arrogant twat who only finished off his set so he wouldn't be liable to the promoters. He got hit with a plastic glass of beer because he decided to go on stage an hour and a half late. He deserved what he got. I would have thrown it myself if I had one in my hand.

I was really enjoying it until the "episode". The remainder of the gig I found to be a sham. While the contract band were spectacular, Axl was just a statue, running through the lines cause he had to. An absolute knob.

But in fairness, that was not Guns N' Roses tonight, that was just Axl and his hired guns. The rest of the band made it. Axl ruined it.

A plastic bottle full of beer will hurt like hell if you take one to the face so why should someone have to put up with the prospect of it all night. From what I've heard he only walked off stage after repeatedly telling the crowd to stop throwing bottles on stage and when another glass bottle was thrown up he walked off and rightly so, how would you like to do your job if you had the constant worry of taking a bottle to the face.

He said it once, after the opening riff of Welcome To The Jungle. From what I could tell, the bottles were also plastic. We've no proof otherwise other than the fact that no glass is sold on the o2 premises and everyone was searched on the way in.

they were glass bottles, Carlsberg ones

I had them in my hand as I bought 2. It looked the exact same as a glass bottle but it was plastic. Hard plastic, but plastic nonetheless. If glass bottle were being thrown, there would have been broken glass around the arena. There was not.

The 'gig' was a disgrace tonight - don't blame the concert goers, it was Axel to blame 100%! I'll be raging if I don't get my money back tomorrow morning, absolutely raging. I've seen a lot of bands of the same stature before, much bigger than G'n'R actually, and have never been treated like that, what a joke. I'm still furious.

Both Axl and the audience are to blame, while he really should start showing up to gigs on time the audience shouldnt spend the duration fo the opening songs booing and bottling him.

**** that prick - that was a disgrace of a gig. If I don't get my money back fair enough, I won't be dealing with MCD again, I'll go to the UK and save money that way. For certain I'm taking them to the small claims court though...

Exactly, he said it once. That is hardly repeatedly. Plus he had already annoyed the hell out of everybody coming on so late.Given his behaviour on the rest of the tour and in his career in general, I am not surprised.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. But to my mind it doesn't look like MCD will be obligated to issue refunds for this, as the band did return to the stage and performed more or less a full set.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 245 ✭✭Dublinproud

Loyal GNR fans deserved better than this.It was obvious from the get go Axl did not want to be on that stage.

If Axl shows up on time the concert would have been amazing....such a shame.

    Just back.

Axl Rose is a complete asshole and here is why.

The support act finished at 9pm.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but aren't support acts there to warm up the crowd, so I'd say a wait of maybe 15 mins max is about apt before you should really see the main act?

Which I think is why that is pretty much the standard wait worldwide.

So he struts out 90 minutes later to a chorus of boos.

They preform the first track which, when finished, is too met with a chorus of boos, thought that might be a good time to say:

"Sorry for the wait Dublin, hope your all still ready to rock your asses off.."

Or some other such rock n roll speak that would have settled the place ..

He didn't say anything close to it and then tension in the crowd was palpable.

Yes, a half of a plastic pint full of beer went through the air, they always do at rock gigs.

Pearl Jam had many that landed on the stage, I remember the guitarist trying to kick one as it landed.

There were NO Glass bottles, that is complete bull****.

After the half pint went passed him, he stopped the gig and said something close to:

"One more thing gets thrown and we're going home. If you want to have fun, then we'll do that .."

When he was standing at the drumkit, a bottle that I would say was 1/4 full, landed close to him and he walked off and said:

    "Goodnight.."

That was after 20 mins or so.

Some people from MCD or O2 came out after ten minutes and said there was some "Technical difficulties.." - she got boo'd off the stage :p

Some other guy then came out after another ten minutes and said they were trying to convince Axl to come out but there can be no throwing stuff from the crowd, he too was boo'd off.

Here's why there will be issues:

The lights came on and people were told to go home by O2 staff.

They told people there would be refunds and many many people walked out.

I would say at least 20% of the crowd left and went home.

When they came back on, the rest of "GnR" were treated with the utmost respect, guitar solos right beside the crowd and nothing was thrown.

But Axl was boo'd a lot and given the finger and called 'wanker' at almost every silence, there wasn't many as they jumped from song to song.

He must have went off the stage twenty times throughout the gig.

Only once did he stay on stage at a point where he wasn't singing.

He also NEVER came within fifteen feet of the stage after his return and did not move from the one spot at any point.

He was deadpan pretty much for every song after the return to the stage, even during songs like Nighttrain and Paradise City where the crowd went ballistic and Axl usual would also, well he never moved a muscle.

My opinion is he brought it on himself.

He showed a complete and utter disrespect for people forking out €70.

I was at Pearl Jam and the house lights came on there at 11.10pm and they had to preform Alive like that.

So, they must have been aware of some curfew, how they were able to play until almost 12.45am is anyone's guess.

I presume threats must have been made about no refunds being given as so they said they were willing to play if the curfew was extended.

I was never sure if all the stories were totally true, and thought maybe Slash exaggerated some of the stuff in his autobiography, but now that I have seen it happen with my own two eyes, I have no doubt that every single word is true.

Seen Slash in Vicar St, Duff at the Academy and Velvet at the Ambassador and each and every gig was class.

Whatever way people try to colour this, the plain and simple truth is, the man is a primadonna and an attention seeker, always was and always will be.

Technically you could argue that they were encountering technical difficulties as Axl is technically a cunt of the highest order.

Wasn't there tonight, but I wouldn't say that the wait was the big problem, more the general understanding that Irish gig crowds have that a show in the Point usually ends at 11pm, or 11.30pm at the latest. If a band aren't coming on stage until 10.30pm, then there's got to be the belief among the crowd that they're going to get a short show.

All it would have taken was an MCD representative to come out before the band and say that there's no curfew.
