    Hi,

Am going to NCI this year. Have a fair few questions I'm hoping somebody could answer for me! :D

    Whats the first week like?

    Whats the age demographic like?

I'm doing Business at level 8 - does this need many books, supplies etc...?

    What are the hours like?

What is the social scene like?

Thanks! I'm dying to go! I should get in. I did my leaving last year and got 350 so I should be okay to get in this year unless the points shoot up big time!

    Any answers much appreciated! ;)

    Thanks!

    -Dean

    1) first week is grand. you basically get to know the people in the class. In the lectures u basically get a run down of what you have to study and stuff.

    2) in my class (doing accounting) the age is mainly late teens early 20's but there are a good few mature students there too.

    3) to be honest in first year i didnt get one book all i had was a a4 pad and pens. The lectures hand you out notes and if you need any books go straight to libary and rent them out saves a fortune and just keep on extending the time you have them but ye'll be told about this on introduction day.

    4) First year is a five day week but wednesdays are half days i think but there are places were you can just skip tutorials and have extra half days :D.

    5) Socail scene i have to say is lerrrrrra. The second week of the term is freshers week. Every day there is something on wether in the college or going out into town at night. Other than that there does be plenty of posters all around the college telling you of nights out and the promotions going on.

And to the other chap Yes the birds are leeeerrrrrra.:P
and the gym is free you have to pay for it but it is included in your registration fee

I do that course (level 8 Business). It only started last year. It really just goes though the basics of the different areas in a business (Marketing, HR, Managemnet etc)

    Anyway to your questions@
    1) The first week is very good. I went in not knowing anyone and after the first say I had made about 6 friends and half of those were made during orientation day. You don't really learn anything during the first week. The lecturers just break down what you will be doing duirng the semester

    2) Its mainly 18/19 and 20 pluses with a few mature students but it would be the same in nearly every course

3)I'm doing that course and all you need is an A4 pad and a pen. You can borrow books out of the library if you need to

4)Some of the days can be long (9-5) with an hour break every now. Nearly every class would have a very short day on a Wednesday. I was only in for 2 hours on Wednesdays (12-2)

5)The social scene is very good. As well as just hanging around in the su playing pool, table tennis etc the nites out are great. Whats even better this year is that during Freshers week, Example will be playing. There will be a lot of posters around the college notifying you of nites out etc

I met the Student Union President and Vice President today - they are really really nice and helpful

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I'm a student at a different Dublin college but I'll be living in NCI accomodation this year, can anyone tell me their experiences? What's the story with these electricity cards?!

Cheers lads for all the answers so far! Sounds pretty cool all right.

One question - What do I have to pay when I first go to college.

I know the fees are paid for by the government. And I'm applying or a maintainence grant as I'm more than eligible for it. Do I need to pay registration fees or are these covered? How much are they?

    Cheers,
    Dean.

The maintenance grant covers your reg fee - there might be a separate levy for the Gym and USI membership - not fully sure

If u're getting a grant then that covers the €1500 registration fee. You just have to pay the €80 gym membership whether you use it or not

Union of Students in Ireland - NCISU pay an affiliation fee to USI - there is talk this year that they might levy the members something like 5 or 10 EUR so it doesn't come directly out of the SU budget

When I was there it was about 80-90% female

It depends which direction you are walking from - the IFSC is grand but sheriff st is not far away - I'd say yes its safe enough

Example are playing on Tuesday 21st in the Academy. Tickets are £12 I think. If your on Facebook add NCI SU as a friend and you should see the events going on during Freshers Week

Could you somebody tell me how its with registration fee?
Because I apply for Student Grant last week.
The 1500e fee is taken from that grant?
I dont have any money left for the fee.
