you could get some training dvd's. i got into 3ds max using the fundamentals training disc from www.3dbuzz.com. you can have a look at some of their tutorials for free once you register with them. they really explain things in detail. what ever level the disc takes you to (intermediate or advanced) you will be at that level when you finish.
