So yeh, just got a cab home there and there was a big sticker on the side saying 'Irish Taxi Driver'... I only noticed it getting out of the taxi. Had I seen it before getting in, I would have gotten a different cab. Somebody told me they'ld seen it before on other cabs also...

Do you give out when SuperMacs and others claim to be 100% Irish owned?

I would if they had a sticker stating "100% Irish staff" on the window.

no, but I just think the stickers might annoy other taxi drivers and its unneccessary imo

I would like to see a "I clean my cab and I don't inflict my ****e opinions on my customers" sticker

maybe its due to the recent report that Irish taxi drivers were amongst the top ten in the world or some sh1t like that.

I cant be ar$ed looking for a link - go find it for yerself if yer interested.

OP you should avoid butchers that say 100% Irish meat outside them too. Hey if I saw a sticker saying "Support Israel" I'd avoid whatever service product the person/place was offering. :D

Their slogan is very clever as well.

"Gets you there in a shot"

    I never understood this.
If your driver is talking ****e what exactly are you doing?

I sit in the back, fold my arms and look out the window.
Maybe it's an unfriendly vibe I give off but I never, ever have drivers ranting.
    I rarely talk at all.

Are you sitting in the front?
If you are avoiding taxis as you don't like talking, why talk to them in the first place?
If they start ranting just cut them off.
"I'm tired, trying to get home, can you just drive on?"
    They will shut up.

Pity you did not see it before you got in

If you did youd know you would have to listen to some whinger go on for the next 20 mins tell you how he only earned 10 euro yesterday due to

    1) The regulator
    2) The foreigners
    3) De reg a laaaation

and you could have avoided that. They should give out those stickers as only the pain in the arse drivers will put them up and then we can all avoid them!!

They always earn so little coz of the foreigners, not beacuse they are dressed like a scum bag in a dirty car that looks like it will stink of piss!! and are parked up behind 50 other drivers at a rank coz they cant be arsed driving around looking for a fare or thinking up of somewhere underserved to go.

Interesting. I recently read a report that claimed that most Irish taxi-men eat babies!

I too, can't be arsed looking for a link though.

If he had a sticker that said " No foreigners allowed" people would probably moan too.

    You just can't win.

A taxi passenger taps the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question.

The driver screames, loses control of the car, nearly hit a bus, goes up on the footpath, and stops centimeters from a shop window. For a second everything goest quiet in the cab, then the driver says “Look mate, don’t ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me!”

The passenger apologises and says he didn’t realize that a little tap could scare him so much.
The driver replies “Sorry, it’s not really your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver -
I’ve been driving ‘hearses’ for the last 25 years!”

No problem PCPhoto, don't mention it :)
    Rank City % of votes
    1 London 59%
    2 New York 27%
    3 Tokyo 26%
    4 Berlin 17%
    5 Bangkok 14%
    6 Madrid 14%
    7 Copenhagen 11%
    8 Dublin 11%
    9 Frankfurt 10%
    10 Paris 10%
    Overall best in the world.
In 2009 we were rated #9 with 2% of the vote
In 2010 we were rated #8 with 11% of the vote

    Friendliest in the world
In 2009 we were rated #2 with 11% of the vote
In 2010 we were rated #3 with 6% of the vote

In overall rankings Dublin drivers are improving apparently
Travelling by taxi is one of the first experiences that many travellers have upon arrival in a new city, so it is significant for the UK capital’s tourist industry that London taxis are making such a good impression on visitors.

In fact, the research found that cabs are by far the most popular method of travel from airport to hotel. The majority (55%) of UK travellers said that they regularly take a cab to their hotel when arriving in a foreign city or resort, as opposed to 16% who tend to use a private car, or 14% who prefer to venture onto a train.

The global poll scored city based taxis for their levels of cleanliness, value, quality of driving, knowledge of the area, friendliness, safety and availability. The overall findings include:

London taxi drivers are the friendliest in the world: Beating taxi drivers across the globe with 8% of the global vote. London black cab drivers beat their Irish (6%) rivals to the title of the world’s most friendly taxi drivers.

Service without a smile in Paris and New York: Clearly with less of a focus on customer service, 12% voted Parisian and New York taxi drivers the rudest in the world.

Roman cabbies are the worst drivers: Almost one in ten travellers (9%) think the Italian capital boasts the world’s worst taxi drivers when it comes to the quality of driving.

It’s all about the knowledge: it’s no surprise that the infamous “knowledge” – a rigorous examination passed by all black cab drivers in London – means a third (36%) voted London taxi drivers as having the best knowledge of their city.

New York, New York: Those heading to the Big Apple will not have to wait long for a car. One in five travellers voted them the most available taxis on the planet.

“A friendly, knowledgeable taxi driver helps form a positive first impression and they are most definitely an important part of any country’s tourism industry.

Bob Oddy, General Secretary of the London Taxi Drivers Association, commented: “Taxi surveys are fast becoming a one horse race. I can’t recall any independent research during recent years which has not placed London cabbies top of the list. I’m confident that the vigorous Knowledge of London training which our drivers are required to undertake is the bedrock of our success.”

    Hard to disagree with that.
    London cabbies are great.
Roman cabbies are lunatics , but most drivers in Rome are.
