The phone number working for anyone else?

What time can we ring at?

Ok first off congratulations to all those who passed. You worked hard and have reaped the rewards of that hard work. Now's the time to enjoy the benefits of that hard work and to relax for the next few weeks before the dreaded FAE's begin.

To those unlucky enough to not of passed, keep the head up. You put in just as much effort into these b*tch of exams but just need a bit more now to get over the finishing line. Put the head down now for the next few weeks and you'll have it.

Overall just looking at it statistically these exams prove to be even more of a joke than first thought.

On a national basis the overall pass rate has gone from 65% in 2008 (the old Prof 3's) down to 51% last year (the first years of the CAP2's) and now having a pass rate of 35%.

This fall off in the national pass rate is rediculous for an institute who call them themselves of a world class standard. With the population size so large (i.e. the number of students sitting the exams) every year this reflects badly not on the students but on the institute. The sign of a good examination system is consistent production of the same quality graduate which as we can see from the above statistics is not the case.

I urge all of you, those who have passed and those who have failed to contact the institute and raise this matter. Having exams with such varying pass rates shows how the institute have little regard for the student, and have even less ability to produce a fair course wide exam.

I finally passed all my CAP2 exams - on the third attempt. It's very hard to pass all 4 in one go since CAP2 started. Lost my job in a Big4 last year because of it but things have worked out great since. If you didn't pass all of them today, you're far from the only one. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

Well done to everyone who passed. :)

Those pass rates are ridiculously low, it's crazy. I'm getting seriously worried about next year ... still have to pass a CAP1 repeat first though!
    How much are repeats?

€77 for CAP1, not sure if CAP2 is the same.

    How much are repeats?

    €100/£70 per paper.

Edit: That's what it used to be anyway. Maybe prices have dropped.

    Get in!!!! Passed all four!!!
Absolutely delighted, congrats to everyone that passed.

Pass rate was crazy, chin up everyone who didnt manage to get through I'm sure the repeats will be alot more manageable because nothing could surpass the difficulty of the first set.

Well thats not true. Last year the pass rate was 51.5% for CAP 2 and then the repeats dropped to 39%. It doesnt bare thinking what the repeat percentage will be this year.

Passed 2 and failed 2. Seeing as the pass rate for each paper was around the 50-55% mark I suppose that makes me pretty average!

thought i might have sneaked another one but no joy (was well short!). ah well 2 papers will hopefully be manageable for the repeats.

now to get quite drunk and forget about everything cap2 related for at least 24 hours

Happy days, passed all 4.... Congrats to everyone that passed. The overall pass rate of 35% is shocking and is a reflection on the institute rather than the group of people that sat the exams. They need to get the quality of lecturer and consistency of exam correct.

Best of luck to everyone that has to do the repeats.

Congratulations to those who've passed and hard luck to those who failed. It's ridiculous but the cards were always stacked against people, especially with this shower of cowboys.

Given that the Institute needed 3 attempts at getting their own phone number right this morning I'd say jokers is more accurate than cowboys.

Congrats to all those who passed. You'll never have to sit a set of exams that tough again.

Not true. Last year after finishing CAP 2's I thought that aswell, but this new FAE course is even worse. Far worse actually. It just keeps getting worse.

I don't envy anyone sitting FAEs this year. I know many people sitting them and it is very difficult to be the "guinea pigs".

I've no doubt that the material is at least as difficult and probably more so than before. I know that at all levels these exams are tough. I will be very surprised, though, if the pass rate is 35%.

The very best of luck in the exams. Hope they go well for all of you attempting them.

Does anyone know how getting papers rechecked works and how much?

Well as far as I know (but I'm open to correction), even if you get it rechecked, you don't get the results of the recheck until after the repeat exam sitting! So even if you passed in the recheck, you'd still have had to do the repeats! Screwed up system.

Did you get the letter yet with your results? The form and information about getting papers rechecked will be in that.

I'd actually say the CAP2's were considerably harder - the calculations were a nightmare and I definitely had to do more study for them.

FAE is simply too open to subjectivity with not enough guidance in the papers of what is actually required. Bring back questions and % marking schemes for the love of God!!

.... which is why the FAE's are harder.

It is so open to manipulation it is sick. It comes down to pure luck.

The material for CAP 2 is definetely as hard, if not harder, but overall the actual EXAMS and the STUDY for FAE is harder. You just cannot prepare for these stupid exams!! Its all a joke. Feel like i'm running around like a headless chicken when studying for these.

Least for CAP 2 I knew how to study for them, and you knew what was required of you on the day as you were given clear questions, with the number of marks for each question.

I think it takes 6 weeks so you would find out at the end of September. i find this pretty stupid as its too close to the repeat exams. so would this mean you would have to pay for the appeal and for the repeat incase the appeal got rejected?
I think the special circumstance appeal is £50 per paper

    +1

Passed all four and really delighted but think the low pass rate is completely down to the absolutely rubbish institute rather than the hundreds of students who have worked their asses off for the exams. I don't know anyone who took the exams lightly and didn't study constantly or work really hard for these and the pay-off for that should (generally) be a good pass rate...institute of complete jokers...

does anyone have the sample solutions for this years CAP 2 exams? Or when will they be published on the website?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 AJ2010

    Hey guys
Does anybody have nice SFMA Theory notes and Question pack?
I had notes from Gary Fox which are quite bad. I also borrowed notes from Margaret D'Arcy, but some questions don't seem to have solutions to them and vice versa.
I'd really appreciate if somebody could post it please!

yeah it's not easy to get good notes for this topic - you are right the Gary Fox notes are poor. I worked from the sample exam q's in Ann-Maries book, as well as the handbook/blue book. Some of the ACCA papers f5.f6, f7 can be useful but beware that the course is not the same.

It's gonna be a problem going forward to FAE level that the notes/questions provided are not strong enough - if we are expected to achieve a professional standard surely we should be provided with professional standard matterials?
