Just off the phone with external appointments after finally working up the courage to actually give them the call and I got the answer I didn't want

They were able to check the status of my application and said "to this date your details haven't been forwarded to Vetting", I'm going to take that as bad news for me

A bit gutting but at least now I can focus on other things and not worry about this process any longer.

Here's hoping it changes soon for me, but I don't think so.

Stop harassing the admin staff. You aren't getting offered the job anytime soon, so whats the point in phoning up.

You've not received vetting? Me too :rolleyes: I'm beggining to feel left out now! Though I wouldn't feel too disheartened by that, who knows what way they are working now with the freeze and what not, could be there isn't the same need to get people through vetting quickly...or could very well be we're quite low down on the pass score list. I suspect the later is the case for myself, don't think I quite did myself justice at the ac, fear of the unknown got to me a bit

Then again who knows, ain't over till the fat lady sings and all that...though I have kind of given up waiting on mine!

That's what drove me to ring and ask. I was going mad everyday staring at the letter box waiting for the brown envelope. I needed it to help me push hard elsewhere for a better paid job than I'm currently in.

Until I hear something in writing though there will still be a small glimmer of hope. For both of us

Vetting forms come in a big brown envelope , can't remember what Medical forms come in though

Excellent article shampon, Mr Spence sounds very serious to me but I think that if you apply for a career like this you have to expect the threat and in todays financial climate, everyone can expect cuts.
I remember an instructor of mine once telling the class, Police work is 99% boredom and 1% terror and thats part of the excitment of it all.

I expect it, it's just you would think that there would be some sort of ring-fence for the operational side of policing based solely on history...maybe that is naivety or wishful thinking, but on reading that article it looks like the cuts will have an effect even before the sternest one's are implemented at a time when their is an increased need for police. We dont want to see soldiers back on the streets, which is what one Councillor was calling for on UTV last night.

I dont think they will ever have soldiers back could cause more problems and with all these threats/attacks it puts increasing pressure for the budgets not to cut as hard for psni due to the risks involved.

I dont think they will ever have soldiers back on the streets either, it would be a sad day for all the Isles. The way they are cutting stuff in England makes Cowen and Lenihan's cuts seem like a Sunday drive, I belive that nothing will be spared from Camerons axe, which is funny because it's not going to effect him in his ivory tower. His cuts could in effect cause bloodshed within N.I, The R.O.I and the U.K, Thatchernomics at it's best.

From a selfish hopefull recruit's point of view that article = good...don't get me wrong, the last thing I want to see happening is more attacks and increases in violence, but articles like that are needed to hammer home to the government the fact that these budget cuts are just plain stupid, and I have no doubt in my mind that they will have detrimental effects up to the point of the loss of more lives. More than likely though no amount of highlighting what can and could happen in the future will deter the cuts, but atleast it will maybe make those responsible feel guilty about what they've done when the sh*t hits the fan...

But wow, 41 bomb attacks in 8 months, never actually thought it was quite as many as that...more than 1 a week...and they want to reduce officer numbers?? Aaaye sure because it's a bed of roses here at the moment like :rolleyes:

The fundamentalists who use their religion to hide behind don't have cuts that effect the way they deliever their message, whether it be by the bomb or the bullet. And I feel politicians fail to see this.

Scaremongering ? Well , it could be argued that as head of the Police Federation he would say all that wouldn't he ? However the events of even the last 2 weeks with several attacks on stations , officers and civilian staff show the threat is high and it is a crazy time to cut officer numbers ( of course it could be argued that I would say that , wouldn't I :rolleyes: ?).

True , the cuts in the Republic are pretty awful and not surprisingly they get prominence there . One interesting point - although Public Servants in the UK can forget pay rises for the foreseeable future , as yet there seems to be little mention of pay cuts which has happened in the South.

I work for the emergency services in Dublin and we took between a 4-12% pay cut depending on what level of the pay scale you were on. Most public and civil servants took a cut too but to what scale I'm not sure and I must add, the Celtic Tiger never came calling to my door

There are large swathes of the Republic where the Celtic Tiger didn't even stop to take a p1ss . U.K. cuts will hit Northern Ireland especially hard given the very high level of dependency on the Public Sector for jobs there.

believe me when i say that the situation is as severe as i've seen in a long time.

i'm from a republican area so i know what i see.

it surprises me when all i hear is that these dissidents are only a few bitter old men. That is so wrong!

There is a new generation of youg millitant republicans springing up who have been brainwashed by bull****! They dont remember how bad it was or how bad it can get very quickly.

all these cuts only allow this situation to breed. it needs knocked in the head before it sets in, which it will if allowed. The troubles havent started again: because they never finished. If you know your Irish history there are always periods of respite followed by madness.

And no harm david cameron if you think 7000 policemen can deal with this you need to be very careful cos its only a matter of time before what we see here comes knocking on England door.
