So Iv excepted my course in NUIG and cant wait but I almost certain I was told we are starting on Saturday the 11th Sept?!?

So on the first day, do we just have to go and register/get timetable etc, are we in for a few hours or full day?

The reason I ask is I have a wedding need to notified weather I will be there or not ;)

that's orientation that's on the saturday. you'll meet your mentor, get a tour of the campus etc etc.
there's an older thread here about it - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055961299

the college year really starts on monday 13th sept for 1st years. depending on your faculty, you might have an advisory session for subject choice (i did last year for unden. science).

this will all be in the college handbook you'll get. i got mine after i had accepted the CAO course. dunno if it's the same for mature students

    hi,
yes thats orientation, not a big deal i'd go to the wedding! i was only kept 40mins, 30 mins of that was listening to some guy talking about the history of the college and a ten minute tour. Its really easy to find your way around :)

I'm starting a new course at NUIG having been there for a couple of years already (but starting first year again now). Do I have to do all the orientation and induction bollocks?

No you don't, it is handy though if you get the booklets for the course tho, other then that you can just head off.

I received a letter from the college yesterday stating that it is compulsory for students to attend both days. It says that mature students will meet with the mature student officer on Saturday 11th at 10.30 in the Arts Millennium Building and be paired with mature student mentors.
You should probably get in touch with the college and explain that you wont be able to attend that Sat just in case they have a problem with that.

it's not compulsory. they just say that to make sure you go. they don't take attendance to see who's showed up or not. there's no penalty if you don't go.
you don't need to explain to the college. loads didn't show up last year.
