windows 7 wont boot on 2nd HD

Banging my head with this one, I have a HD with win7 home edition installed on it. I had a 2nd hd with vista installed in dual boot configuration and could swap between as I saw fit.

I recently upgraded the vista install to win7 pro 64 bit and since then I can no longer boot into my 32bit windows 7 home on the other HD. it just gives me cannot boot error on scree and press f1 to retry or f2 to enter setup where I can re-order the boot sequence and get back into win764.

would the install of win7 pro have affected this? I tried to repair the win7 home install using the disc but when I boot from cd, it doesn't recognise ANY windows installation so I can't even choose one to fix :(

    boo! any advice?

    Thanks.

Maybe it overwrote the boot configuration file or changed the mbr? I know installing windows OS`s have a habit of doing this.

Then again I may be way off are your using seperate disks.

Are both hard drives viewable in the bios?

yeah I thought it might have deleted the boot file alright. I certainly can't find it!

I can log in to windows 7 64bit no problem and see my other hd there (with the other win7 onit) and can browse all my files from this HD.

I am using 2 separate discs as one is 64bit pro and the other is home edition 32bit.

I tried some commands on the drive where win 7 home 32bit is to repair the boot file (rebuildmbr) but this was unsuccessful so it must be missing more than just the boot?!

    any other insights?

    thanks.

One way is to use the windows command line tool "bcdedit" to create the correct entry for your other operating system install.

Easier is to use the free tool EasyBCD

You can backup your existing config and try to modify the bootloader to list the active partition on the 2nd drive.
