Anyone know what the story is with accepting potential offers tomorow? If your second choice is offered and you accept it, are you still in the running to be offered your first choice if it becomes available at a later date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 783 ✭✭✭ZombieMed

Yep, you could still get your higher place after accepting. It's just the lower choices you won't get offered at all, if you're offered a higher one.

Think colleges have information on waiting lists also so you could call if you think you might get a higher offer to see where you are on the list.

The best of luck tomorrow everybody. Hope everyone gets the offer they want!!! :D

What is the story with finding out? will it be emailed or a case of looking at CAO website? I'm in work at 6 tomorrow!! My first opportunity to check will be at break time at 8 on the comp in the canteen in work but... don't really want everyone knowing what i'm doing, so would rather not be on the CAO website... checking email is slightly more discreet...? anybody know?

    D-Day is upon us.

Best of luck all, inevitably some people will be ecstatic and some will be disappointed. Hope things go as well as possible for all concerned, keep the head whether you're bubbling over with joy or feeling down.

Get posting where you're going (and with what score so we can figure out what cutoffs might be) whenever you can.

Best of luck to those of you who get offered a place and start the course. I was going to wish best of luck to everyone but realised it's just one of those things that unfortunately not everyone who wants it can get in. If unsuccessful i'd recommend re-sitting again next year. I missed out last year with a score of 53.
    I have a 59 this year. Here's hoping!

Wow we all seriously underestimated the cut-off points for this year anyways!

That is for sure! The extra places that had been expected must not have come into fruition. The points of all have risen. Frustrating.

Looks like I will be offered UL with my 59. Now I have a decision to make! The prosepect of moving down to Limerick doesn't appeal to me, but nor does wasting away a year of my life! grrr, fml!

Im the exact same as you. But I think we have to seriously consider that this kind of jump could have placed UL outside of our reach for good....Sobering. Take a place while you can! But if you really think you can do better than 59 by repeating then go for it. Its a dangerous situation to be in. Imagine the points never coming below 60 from nxt year on, so many of us would be regretting not taking a place in UL....

Have the points come down much between round 0 and later rounds in the past, does anyone know?

Probably not, but accepting an offer of limerick with a score of 59 is the best thing to do so long as your first preference is higher on your cao form. That is if you are infact unhappy to get offered a place in limerick, i'm delighted!

Congrats everyone! 4 years time and you'll be close to calling yourself 'Doctor (insert name here'

Got first preferance UCC on 61, mightly relieved. Extra UCD places must not have materialised. Would imagine RCSI will drop in next round. Really feel for the people who are shocked by the jump. For anybody doing GAMSAT again, I've material which would be of use, PM me.

    Got Cork on 60.
Should be elated (will be when it sinks in!), but just shocked that it means uprooting out of Dublin as points are WAY higher than any of us expected!

I should be grateful I got Cork as 60 wasn't guaranteed.

    Right....now....WOOOHOOO gonna go do Medicine!!

2nd round offers are out the 23rd Aug! Which is a bit mad considering UCC term begins that day so some ppl will have to be ready to switch quick!!

Anyone have any thoughts on how 2nd round offers will go??

UL term begins the 30th Aug - looks like I will be seeing you there!! ;)

Congrats to everyone who got what they wanted.

Can anyone help me here- I not that familiar with how the CAO operates?

I got no offer this morning.

But I have 61 points and my order of pref is RCSI, UCD, UCC and UCL.

So that means I'm eligible for UCC.

Why havent I gotten an offer?

I'd get on to them straight away. There are loads of things that may have gone wrong along the way. Do you get confirmation of your eligibility from CAO earlier in the year? Does your online application confirm your GAMSAT score?

It seems that it is incredibly hard (and maybe a little foolish, if you're not in the know) to predict the next round cut-off scores seeing as most people were quite a bit off with their round zero guesses!

For what it's worth, I can already see on some forums that a few people are apprehensive about having to accept an unexpected place at UL, so logically perhaps UL will be likely to drop a little. It seems that traditionally people are more likely to decline a place at UL than anywhere else and therefore the other cut-offs elsewhere may be less likely to fall, if at all (when I say traditionally I mean this purely by reading what others have posted on the boards in the past few years and old CAO GEM points lists).

Out of interest - how did some people know the cut-off point scores by 2.30 am this morning?? (tazzle, don keypunch and zombiemed)
