MGM Movies - what is the story ?

    I have noticed that on MGM Movies channel 326 on UPC, there are a lot of pre-watershed over 18 or 15 films on from time to time e.g. Last Tango In Paris broadcast on a Saturday evening at 7pm, The Basketball Diaries broadcast at 5pm today. There was plenty of bad language in Basketball Diaries and sex in Last Tango, and both were broadcast totally uncensored. How are they allowed to do this ? Can they legally do this ?

    i have noticed this as well and am wondering why it isnt pin protected like sky movies or maybe its up to the customer to use the parental controls

    I always thought the watershed was something that the channels themselves imposed, rather than a legal thing?

    I would say its up to the parents to ensure that they pin protect any channels that they deem to be unsuitable for their kids. Watershed or not, kids can still view these channels, even if they didnt broadcast adult content until after 9.

    It is an Ofcom rule and as far as I know MGM isn't licenced by Ofcom, so they don't have to follow their rules.

    For ages (and possibly still) BAI didn't have any really watershed rule, and it was up to the channels themselves (but you know, its only RTÉ and TV3) though they might now...

    Better parenting would help prevent that.

    Walk out onto the street and I guarantee you will hear worse. The nanny state controlling television is not what I would like.
