Problem with UPC remote / box?

    Hi

Firstly, I'm not very techie so apologies in advance.
I have a UPC box about 2 years. Its one of the big ones as in its the size of a large DVD player. A few days ago the remote started to play up so I assumed it was the batteries.
I changed the batteries but the problem is still there.
Basically.. the remote only works sporadically.. I have to press it hard and a lot to get it to change channels.. however, I'm beginning to think it could be the box itself as the light flashes on the remote when I press the button and the remote works the volume on the TV with no problem at all.

Any ideas?? Oh.. I've checked all the connections

    Thanks

Sounds like the remote is fecked. They are only little boards underneath.

Is the boxes sensor blocked by a pain of glass as in a glass TV cabinet. when you go up directly to the box do those buttons that dont work normally, work ?

    If no remote fecked.

    hi there,
this seems to be a problem happening to many including myself. I also posted the same question and the good people of boards said put some masking tape over the infra red receiver on the upc box. i used a piece of paper in front of it (i have the silver box so the receiver is to the left of the digits displaying channel numbers) and it now works perfect.

Im not sure why it works but I believe it is the signal itself is either being interfered with or is too strong????

    Hi STB and Minatauro

No, there isnt any pain of glass blocking the signal and it doesnt matter how close or far away I am to the box..

I'll deffo try the piece of tape / paper thing though

    Thanks for the replies
