Computer Slow to Respond

    I'm running Windows 7, and the last few days my computer has been slow to respond. Basically, there'd be a half second pause before it responds. For example, I'd click on a file, it'd briefly pause before selecting it. Happens with nearly everything on the computer. Clicking links in Firefox, switching between windows, etc.

    I haven't installed anything new, so it can't be that. Task manager shows me only using 39% of physical memory and 6% of CPU, so it's nothing to do with that.

    I've scanned for viruses and spyware, nothing.

    Anyone know what it could be?

    I tried using system restore to last week.

    Seemed to fix things, but after about 2 hours, the problem was happening again.

    Anyone got any suggestions?

    Have you tried msconfig utility?
    start--run--type msconfig--selective start up---click start up tab and delete any program you dont need to start hen windows start or that you dont know what it is.

    You may a have a program running in the backround causing things to slow. This will stop it loading with windows.

    any chance it's an anti virus scann in the background ?

    No, not a virus scan. That was one of the first things I checked. I don't think it's any of the startup things either. Like I said, windows task manager seems to indicate that very little of the RAM or CPU is being used.
