My wife was using her ipod on my laptop for the last few years but she recently got an imac and is now looking to de-register her ipod off my machine and set it up on her mac. Also I might be buying a Nano to use with my laptop so I would need to sort that as well.

Is this process straightforward or not???

You don't need to deregister an iPod, you just need to set up the syncing options on the new computer. You can deauthorise a computer from an iTunes Store account, but thats all. Other than that, are you talking about moving your wife's media to the new computer?

Yes. Will her media from the ipod automatically import into her new itunes account, and can I hook a new ipod into the existing ipod account on my laptop?

    From Apple Support: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329

It should give you all the info you need.

    I did this recently.

Went into music folder/iTunes on the old comp
Copied the entire iTunes folder to an external hd
Copy/paste that over the iTunes on my new computer. Job done

I also deauthorised my iPhone from the old comp.
