Story by the Irish Times can be found here.

So, more people are leaving Ireland in the EU than anywhere else.
I know that it might just be facts and figures in the article, but there's a definite indication of many people emigrating in everyday life too - not a week or two passes without hearing of someone who's now living in Australia or America, planning to, or are soon to be gone.

Are any of you planning to leave, are overseas, or have gone and come back? Personally, I'm thinking of it once I finish college.

Emigrated two years ago, am happy. Have a job, my own company - no real reason to go back (at least not permanantly).

I think the fact that emigration and unemployment are exactly back where they were in the 80s is testaments to FF's **** up of the Celtic Tiger.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Where exactly do you think is better? Besides Canada and South Africa? There's fcuk all jobs in Australia, I was there.. It's as bad as here.. As for the rest of the world, most countries are in ****.

What is is that you find the worst about this country - is it the Government, the lack of jobs, what?

Most of continental Europe, possibly the US, the UK doesn;t seem to be as badly hit (although by no means a safe bet).... come to think of it just about everywhere bar Greece and Iceland.

I know i'm emigrating and its got nothing to do with jobs, just the fact that i don't want to live here anymore.

Slap me if I'm being annoying, but just wondering what it is about the place that people don't like? Personal reasons, or can you specify?

The government, the lack of jobs, the fact that theres so much crime and so little punishment for it and can only see it getting worse from looking at younger kids in the area. Working every hour I can and then to see people getting hand outs from SW for having five kids and doing **** all work. It annoys me more so than anythnig else. The honest hard working people are getting screwed big time

Bingo. Same here. Will be packing up shop and relocating in the next 12-18 months. Slunk gave a fairly accurate picture above.

I find it amazing that the Government is so blind to this and is doing nothing except stuffing money in their own back pockets to stop this.
People I've known for years as electricians, plasterers, etc and were earning hundreds a week have become unemployed and have moved abroad as a result.
You may say, what can a Government do in a recession? But how can they still afford such huge salaries and bonusses, etc?!
    It's madness.

Completely with you on that, don't forget the slow burning ball of anger in the pit of your stomach and the feeling of helplessness.

There's many things and they all add up. Heres a few:

The weather obviously although this summer's been good.
Everything or mostly the majority of things are a rip-off.
Junkie/Scummers around Dublin city is it just me or are they getting worse.
Sick of hearing news of some scumbag getting a slap on the wrist for crimes that would put you prison for life in other countries, the laws here are a joke.

Don't know where i'm moving to but as long as it's not here i'm happy.

If it weren't for the government (this one and all of the previous governments), there would probably be loads of jobs.

If the sheep ever stopped voting in lazy useless fuckers, we might get somewhere.

That was a major part of the problem tbh. Made their bed, now let them lie in it. No pity tbh. Didn't think twice about ripping people off while the going was good.

I know a few people gone abroad (mostly guys). Most of them have a trade and couldn't get work here.I have a mate gone to Australia to "live the dream" .He wanted to work in the pharmaceutical side of things and thought he would have a better chance in Oz for some reason .

He's currently working as a sheep farmer 3 hrs away from civilization no phone no net.He could of applied for a job here in Tesco or something if he wanted to but that was beneath him.He hates it but feel like a failure if he was to come home early. It's true what they say the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

did you ever consider that he is doing rural work so that he can recieve his second year visa?any person who goes over there does this in order to expend there stay and also save a bit of money for traveling

also for the people who says there no jobs in oz thats simply false.theres plenty of jobs over there if your repared to work.i was hiring for a company over there and tried to give jobs to as many irish as i can.

most of them would last a day as they felt the work was beneath them or not well paid enough.anybody i know who has a good work ethic that has gone over there has found work pretty easily

the moaning that goes on about how bad everything here is, is what annoys me about this country the most! Things are bad in a lot of countries right now, but I dont think anyone can moan (and do nothing about it) quite like the Irish. (im aware im moaning about people moaning by the way:))

...though in fairness it should be pointed out that as the tiger was a bubble, it was actually the fuck up....or so I understand it anyway.

Most Europena countries came out of recession a lot quicker than Ireland has, with most on the road to recovery. Mostly because they didn't go nuts and let their financial giants do what they wanted.

Not nessecarily. They first few years (up until about 2001/2002) were genuinely progressive. Foreign corporations came here and set up and brought with them investment and employment. It was after that that the bubble started, mainly due to dodgy rezoning practices and Charlie McCreevey spedning ****loads of money we technically didn't have and letting finanical institutsions (eg Anglo Irish) do what they liked. This was the ****-up.
