Correct Wiring for LVDT

    Howdy,
    I'm trying to put together some measuring equipment at the moment which involves the use of a DC/DC LVDT (similar model to this one ... http://www.macrosensors.com/DC_SE_750.html ).

    The wiring diagram shows connections to +15V and -15V terminals and a common terminal from a power supply. Electronics aren't really my area so I'm a bit confused by the +/- voltage idea. Does this mean that I need two power supplies, i.e. one with 15V between the positive and common and the other with 15V between the negative and common or will one 15V power supply (like this one .. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48908) do the job?

    I've tried hooking it up using the Maplin power supply with the 15V connected to the positive terminal and using the negative as the common. It gave a reading but the output voltage was alot lower than I expected it to be.

    You need a dual power supply, +/- 15v.

    Imagine you have two 15v batteries joined in series.
    Where the batteries are joined is the Common or 0v. the plus terminal of one battery is at +15v
    The minus terminal of the other battery is at -15v.

    Does that make sense?

    Ok yeah, that makes sense alright. Just didn't want to go hooking it up with twice the voltage without knowing exactly what I was doing! Thanks a mill...
