    Hi
I have a newish desktop that has all kinds of 'crap' on it..

I want to reinstall windows on it..

I have the manufacturers reinstall cd..

If I use this to reinstall will it remove the 'crap' or do I have to format (and if I format can I use reinstall cd ???)

if you install over the top you are doing an upgrade and will inherit most/all of the crap

if you format you will loose ALL of your data including the crap

if the XP CD you have is an image disk then you won't need new drivers, some of them like tosh and sony will wipe your drive anyway, others like dell will be a standard XP cd with no drivers for newer hard drives, so you would need to check that out

make / model / what does it say on CD ?

get all your drivers first. video cards, USB keys, network card and all of that stuff.
