Is it just me or is anybody seriously dissapointed with the new rules ?

Come on...Randomised charge distances ? Anybody can play with this kinda rules with minimal skill and generalship (it could be made up)

Warrhammer for me used to be all about ranges, guessing and in the ending making a balls of it and getting charged by those big units of knights that you were actually in charge range of....

from the few games i;ve played so far i rather like them myself, the removal of guess range and random charges does appear like a dumbing down but i fell other areas have increased in complexity and i can see a whole new level of generalship coming into play, the changes in rules generally remove areas of
conflict, a lot of the old fun and games to do with movement where more to do with how far you could push the rules or have a set of rules that allowed you to break them

the random charges on the surface seem very off putting but the fact you know hit in initiative order and you only get a 1+ to combat resultion for charging means that in general the charge is not that important, focus is know moved towards matching combats and getting the counter charges in place

from the games i;ve play with the new rules regarding reforming movement is very dynamic in a positive way instead of one parts leading another on a merry go around which happened far to often in 7th

but it is new and i hold full judgement until a lot feather down the road, i had got rather bored with the meta game and the cut and paste lists from forums, 8th has actually reinvigorated my interest

Furthermore if you think about it, not knowing how far your unit is going to charge and removing that certainty requires a great deal more planning ahead and thus better generalship rather than the opposite. It also takes away the classical 7th edition stakemate stand-off with neither side moving for fear of the charge.

I am much happier with the new edition as are all the players down in Limerick. It's quicker, more fun, more fluid, and it is forcing the archtype tournament cheese players to rethink their strategies and not rely on their lists to win.
