Here's how to fix your DC monkeyfudge. It's usually the Pins that need bending or sort out their contacts by bending them so the contact with the six pins is better.

Would modding one of my MD's really make much of a difference to my PAL only selection of titles?
    Is there any point?

Might have the next beers in my place, just need you guys to travel a bit, I'm on the 41b bus route to get here, but getting home at 4am is tricky!
A driver is needed for definite, but it's just great to see my stuff getting some mileage, mostly it's been providing much needed housing for various spiders, fly corpses (see spiders), webs (again see spiders) and wasp cadavers (similar to corpses) who simply flew in, lost and lonely, and never returned to their loved ones, Mwa HA HA!

Swords isn't too much of a stretch for me anyway.

A little thing called 60hz ;) Your PAL games are all 17% slower and have horrible borders. It's an essential mod really. No games should ever be played in PAL.

    I'm up for that! :)

Swords is closer for me as well. I'd still have to drive.

As for modding your PAL megadrive, it would mean you can play those PAL games the way they were meant to be played, 60Hz and fullscreen. And yes it does make a big difference.

Hopefully I'll pass my test on Friday so I could also drive out which wouldn't be a problem.

I might have a free gaff in august as well, but I live out in Balbriggan.

Ah well, someone has to live in Balbriggan, might as well be you.
No wonder you're always so up for a fight!
You have to know how to defend yourself to survive there,
think "The Warriors" but with Irish accents!
Speaking of which, got that for the PS2 a while ago, and popped it on for the first time, I'm never likely to play it seriously, but it's fun, not dissimilar to Manhunt in a lot of ways.

The Warriors is a brilliant game, don't even compare it to that pos Manhunt!

You only hate Manhunt because your parents won't let you play it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

I hate Manhunt because it made me kill that boy.

No, the voices of the spiders that live behind your eye socket, they made you do it.
Now, where did I put that axe?

Manhunt is very good, violent, immoral, nasty, but good.

I liked it too myself. It's a videogame version of 70s/80s exploitation video nasties. You need to look at it from that point of view and not the 'OMFG VIOLENT ROCKSTAR IS RUINING OUR VIDJOGAMES!!!' angle.

I really enjoyed manhunt, great game

and anyone who is "influenced" by videogames is already a complete nutjob and is already well cabable of killing someone and they just need somthing to blame

before video games it was Judas Priest that were apperantly causing it!

I didn't like manhunt because it was probably the most boring, repetitive and badly written game I'd ever played.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,753 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Boring, repetitive, badly written, sounds like FFVII to me! ;)

But thats ok Retro, we're all friends here, and you are quite free to have your own opinions, even wrong ones!

And for those sufficiently dazzled by Steel Battalion, why not buy your own?
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Steel-Battalion-Xbox-/280533611010?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item41511b3202#ht_500wt_947

I reckon buy this, organise a retrogaming road trip to pick it up, just take the ferry over with the car.
It could be cool for those with the retrogaming balls to do it!
Of course, some of you lack the commitment, don't be embarrassed, that's ok, there's room in the world for 2nd place you know.... ;)

    And another thing,
Here's an affordable Vectrex with cheap international shipping,

One thing I can remember about manhunt was that the exclusive review was pulled from a magazine because they gave it 3/10 and it went to a magazine with looser morals. To me it felt like the worst part of the old GTA games, the on foot sections, which were always terrible with an awful camera and they just made a whole game around it. Thankfully the Rockstar team in Vancouver know how to make good games and gave us the brillaint The Warriors and Bully.

Oh and stop tempting me ciderman! I actually have enough in 3V cards to buy the vectrex...

As for steel battalion I think 16 of use should buy the game and the next retro meet up can be a local 16 player link up steel battalion game.

Trying to work the logistics out in my head for the next beers.
    When are we talking about?
I'll have to arrange to be off the following day, and ship the wife and child out for the evening, so we can use all available screens!
Although, if Monkeyfudge can see his way to bringing the projector, I can turn the sunroom into a mech cockpit!
Then there's the attic 29" CRT for most of the retro stuff and the main 37" HD LCD for the Wii/360/PS3/NeoGeo and Nuon.
That should cover everything I think.

Don't tell me the Nuon is HD! Tempest 3000 in HD..... I want one.

Aer lingus or ryanair are doing cheap flights to the Uk are they not?

You can dismantle the controller into 3 pieces, pop it into a suitcase, then convince the security staff that it's not some sort of bomb!
It's worth it, you know it, you want it, oh yes.....

And no, the Nuon is no HD, the player can do some scaling thing but this is before HDMI was popular, remember the host hardware is a 9 year old DVD player!
But it does look super sweet on the big screen, nicer still on my brothers Plasma :(

It's a pity you weren't around for Dino Rex, as a fighting game fan you would have loved it.
