What your confusing me? I said i don't want a united ireland and you think that i should change to wanting one because they want one? That is utterly selfish.

He is not asking you to want it. He is asking you if you accept there is a large number of people in NI who would like to see a UI.

Compromise, something Owen is refusing to consider.

No i'm never going to accept it and why would i accept it when theres only 40% that want it over nearly 60%/70% now that would be plain stupid.

Thats right, everyone can afford to abandon their HOMES and up sticks and move down here.

    They shouldn't have to.

Well then your stuck, passing yourself from post to post. I hope you aren't expecting Northern Ireland to have a UI just for 40% of the population? Now that WOULD be selfish.

They live in a country they dont want to be part of
There cant convince a majority of their fellow residents to think likewise
Theres another country a couple of hours (or less) drive away which they would feel happier being part of

If the mountain wont come to Mohammed...........

In order to save me scrolling back through trying to locate it would you be good enough to repeat it (still no takers on mine I see)

If and when the nationalists are in the majority, I assume you'll be in favour of the unionists moving to mainland Britain.Right?

Or maybe they could bring in another ulster coveant (i think this is a great idea.) type idea and put the unionist counties in the uk as there will be trouble,(tbh i think its best leaving it the way it is as a united ireland will start trouble again)

    What?

It is their country, however they would like to see it unified, what has that got to do with leaving homes and moving?

I would describe myself as moderately nationalist. However in saying that I'm perfectly happy to live in the North if a majority of the citizens here want NI to stay part of the Union, no problem whatsoever.

However, it seems I am not being afforded the same right, that should a majority in the North want to see a UI, then it would not be tolerated. In fact it has been stated in this thread that my desire to have a UI would not even be accepted.

Thats not a good idea. The nationalists and unionists left behind so to speak will be pissed.

If its such a big issue for them yes

Not much point being a Unionist if theres no Union now is there

Yea but it will work well this time as they will split it up according to the most unionist constuencies i mean north antrim is like 70% unionist so there will be barely any trouble there for example.

Is a federal republic not a very large compromise?

Again, no idea what your trying to say here, I do fairly well deciphering most of your posts but this one has me dumbfounded.

Maybe you would like to try answering any of points I did raise in that post?

Its amazing how having to actually pay for your 'country' can shake loyalty!!

How many of the pro UI posters on this thread are willing to pay for the north in the form of higher taxes and the like? Add an extra five billion on to our Budget deficit for starters. Plus probable increases in military and police spending, plus god knows what else. Look at the German experience of reunification.

It is amazing, isn't in.
