In my opinion, snag yourself a 3G 16GB. I was forced to get the wifi only cos that's all there was, sold it and got a 3G last Monday. It's frustrating when your MiFi runs out of juice. Capacity is irrelevant I feel, thanks to the Cloud.

I now run mine on an Italian SIM, 3 gigs a month for 5€. The days are happy.

So....unless you're going on a 3-week cruise and want to watch every episode of The Wire....just get a 16Gb.

Culabula, how does using an Italian sim work over here?

Anybody give the Dashboard app rejected from the App Store a shot? It's been on Cydia for a month or so.

Very simple: 3 Italia have brought out a dedicated iPad SIM. As this is part of 3 Like Home, this works in 8 territories around the world without penalty and naturally this includes Ireland and the UK.

For a guy like me, on the train right now from Belfast to Dublin, it couldn't be better.

Wanna hear the best bit? the first month is free.
Wanna hear the best bit? It's 5€ a month.
Wanna hear the best bit? It works in all iPhones.
Wanna hear the best bit? It's in my Mifi right now, serving my iPad and 2 iPhones.

And now.....Wanna hear the best bit?

You can top it up on the Tre Italia site by PayPal.

sounds fantastic! almost too good to be true, are there any downsides? must you travel to purchase or is there a way of getting it here/online?
do you know does it work in France also?
is there a certain length of contract that you have to sign?

Sorry for all the questions, but it sounds like a brilliant deal!

But What's the best bit? ;)
Can these puppies be bought online?

No contract, if you don't top up, it don't work. It's no different to buying a 3Ireland SIM and using it in Italy, except that it's far cheaper.

France is not a 3 country but AT LAST all three networks there have brought out PAYG iPad SIMs. These will only work in the Hexagon.

You must get an Italian national/resident to purchase the Tre Italia microSIM for you. That's maybe the only "downside".

Using it now to write all this.....

Sure does -once you unlock it!

Even better -an iPad app was released yesterday for it "credito per Tre" which lets you know where you stand with it credit and datawise.

There is a very simple online unlocking solution which is free though the dude would like a PayPal donation, preferably. I don't have the URL to hand but am sure it's discussed over in tech/broadband/mifi.

That unlock app worked for me.

iPad and MiFi has worked great for me so far although I gotta admit, iPad is now for sale on adverts while I try an locate a 3G version. Trip to Belfast to get one and an iPhone 4 could be on the cards.

Do you find yourself using it out and about to warrant the 3g version? Only asking as I'm going to be buying one as a gift and wondering what situation or circumstances people have that would require a 3g version?

    Ta.

In my experience it took 3/4 days to get a 3G version (as correctly intimated by Apple staff). Haven't looked back. 4 minutes to sell wifi version on Twitter.

I use it everywhere, so 3G is what I wanted. MiFi is great (going in to buy the new version today) but only lasts 5 hours as opposed to the 10 hours of iPad.
Without MiFi, there is nothing as frustrating as finding yourself in a wifi-free zone. But even more frustrating is finding your Mifi out of juice. With 3G, unless you haven't charged your iPad, you're always online (which is where I want to be).

How do you sell via twitter, I'm currently trying to sell my Wifi iPad to get the 3G version?

IMHO, Twitter is the new eBay.

I advertised my 2nd PS3 (to fund iPad) -took literally 3 minutes and it was successfully sold.

I then put up my iPad 32GB WiFI, took 4 minutes before I had a buyer. He placed funds in my € a/c 30 minutes later and within an hour I had expedited it to him. No fees, me happy, he happy, job's a good 'un.

Which is exactly what I did. I bought the 3G first and put the wifi one for sale immediately afterwards. The iPad for sale was immaculate but I sold it with the new box whose peripherals etc had not been unwrapped or used, taking only the SIM remover tool for my own uses. The buyer got a good deal!

I've searched but I can't seem to find a proper answer:

What date is the iPad out in Ireland this month?
    Is there an official price?
What stores will sell it apart from Apple.ie?

    Answer to all 3 - No-one knows.

Just to bring this little tip to iPad user's attention!
You know how sometimes clicking on the top-menu on Boards can be a bit awkward? Text can be a bit small and finicky to click links!

Now I'm not near my iPad right so I don't know how effective this will be but it's worth a shot!

Click 'boards.ie' on the far-left of the top menu, then click 'Change Styles' and choose 'Boards.ie Beta' in that menu.

You should have the Beta style in developing for the forum with a menu that's larger and a search box to bring you directly to a forum. See screenshots below:

    betax.jpg

Oh, and click here to reset it to the default theme if you don't like it
