CD-ROM Drive not responding on Vista Laptop

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that would could shed light on a problem I'm having with my laptop. Just recently the CD drive has stopped operating and won't respond. The device manager still recognises it and says there are no problems but it won't open if I press the eject button and none of the software on the laptop can access the drive.

By inserting a pin I can open the drive manually, but the CD's inside are not recognised or run automatically as they normally should be. It's very annoying as I had just bought some new Anti-Virus software on CD that I wanted to install and now I find I can't, should I consider resinstalling Vista?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to re-seat the cd-rom drive? Usually these are only held in by one screw and other than that should pop right out, and back in just as easilly.

I haven't tried that Overheal. It's a bit late now and I'm just off to bed but I'll try this tomorrow and let you know how it works out.
