Trying to recall and anime name

Hey all

As the title says, I am trying to remember the name of an anime.
Here's all I can remember, to the best of my memory:
It was played in english or with an english dub.
The main characters were two children.
They would travel through time or to another dimension in a large ship which may or may not have been slightly bird shaped.
The ship left their place from under a basketball court or pool along a long golden rail, until heading through a portal of some sort.
The kids enter the ship down separate chutes where their clothes get changed.
The main enemy of the kids nearly always fails and their his/her ship blows up with a rose shaped cloud, which loses 1 petal..this point should give it away to someone.
