ach balls. just found out that part disposals of subsidiaries arent going to be examined. fs= made some cracking notes on it too. what a waste of time.

How do you know they aren't going to be examined? I thought part disposals were on the course?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

apparently our lecturer said it would be full disposals of subsidiaries if it got questioned and that we wont need to know eg. going from being a subsidiary to being an associate. maybe thats balls that it wont be examined = who knows

I would do some IAS 33, 17 and 11 if you have the chance- questions are easy enough to understand and have a good chance of coming up I would think. It's never too late :)

Yeah I agree with SL10. They're not TOO hard to get your head around, and they're not something you could really just pick up and attempt on the day.

Hey Guys, Best of luck to everyone next week. A little insider tip; having had administrative involvement in the Prof III and CAP 2 exams lets just say the past papers for Financial Reporting will not be sufficient to prepare you for next week's paper. A solid knowledge and grounding in financial instruments, consolidation of investment funds and SPVs, both in euro zone and featuring other currencies should get students over the line.
Regarding the audit paper, there is a significant deviation from material asked in prior years, with a focus more on the audit of share capital, reserves and investments. Topical given the current environment.
As I said best of luck to all involved, and can I remind you at the end of the day the DCASS summer soccer tournament is being held at the end of the week with entry only €5.

consolidation of investment funds? lol - aye right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Mark1916

If it is investment funds and SPVs their just normal companies so I wouldnt be overly worried!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 263 ✭✭SL10

    What are SPV's?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Hackysack

    That's BS.

Derivatives and other high level financial instruments are not examinable. If you look at the bottom of the competency statemen you'll see this.

And quite frankly if you are an insider, you really wouldn't be giving up these vague 'tips'. If you really had any input whatsoever to the exam process and you were willing to inform the public of these 'tips', you'd be saying a lot more straightforward things like know your cashflows etc.

Don't know what your game is mate but i'm not buying it.

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question but does anyone know what part of the RDS the exams are being held?
Thanks, and best of luck to everyone!

Anyone know where there are some decent level questions on the disposals of Subs? The ones I have looked at some far are piss easy and can't see them coming up.

only read the letter today, just to note that you have to be seated at ten past 9 for a half 9 start. does this mean we get 15 mins reading time before you can start writing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Hackysack

Nope there's no reading time. You just have to find your desk and get organised really.

I wouldn't mind, but reading time would be pretty great to have.

Best of luck everyone, Im pretty ****ed myself, esp in Financial Reporting! Ah but listen, they're only exams at the end of the day, I know it'd suck to fail them and possibly pass them but in 2 years time they'll be long forgotten.

Thats how Im cheering myself up from my stress induced depression anyway! :D

hi guys, I am the Education Officer with CASSI (student society) & just want to comment on the above.

Firstly, anyone who is an "insider" would not come onto a public forum & make such blatent statements as everyone involved is tied to confidentiality agreements etc to ensure fairness for all. As a fellow student myself, this personally seems like someone trying to stir trouble at the last min. My only advice is keep calm & trust the work you have done to date is sufficient.

You all have a long week ahead, so try to eat & sleep properly to make it through. Remembr, those of you in Dublin have your ost exam drinks after the tax exam on fri :)

Any feedback you have on the exams, please send it to cassdinfo@gmail.com. These details, along with details for regions other than Dublin will be on your desks at the Friday exam.

Finally, best of luck to everyone!

ps the cassd summer soccer (4week comp) fee is €200 for mens & €170 for ladies (dettails on www.cassd.ie)

can some1 please tell me if u can answer the calculations part of the exams in pencil or not? i.e. SFMA calculations and Auditing Calculations (analytical reviews etc) in pencil?

I know the writing parts have to be in pen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 444 ✭✭Flange/Flanders

Ya your calculations can be in pencil, think the rest has to be in pen tho and not red pen. Think thats what it says on the regulations letter.

I think you can do the calculations in pencil, however I would recommend a friction ball pen (basically a pen that can be erased just like a pencil).
Don’t give the examiner any excuse to mark you down.

    Hi All

Just to say good luck to all in the exams!

Also - in addition to no reading time there will almost certainly NOT be the ten minutes previously given at the end of the exam to "tidy up and format" your paper.

This practice was discontinued (without notice or announcement) at FAE repeats this year so don't rely on it being there.

    Good luck to everyone.

Thanks to everyone who helped me on this thread(PMed me, forwarded on notes etc). Invaluable- though I could probably start my own CAP II library at this point......

    Roll on Friday!
