Bad news Minto, Nesta was already picked in Round 4 - he hasn't retired.
Its two different players though isn't it? He is getting the best Nesta, whoever picked him in round 4 is getting the current Nesta.

F*CK! I'll go change it in a sec, but didn't he retire after the last World Cup?

it was asked before the non wc round if people who have self imposed retirements were eligable and the answer was yes, hense my drafting Riquelme who has said he wont play under Maradona so Nesta was eligable and picked, woulda been a great pick otherwise as at his peak he was one of the best but there are similar players you can take in his place that are legends of the game

Yea, just changed it to my second choice! I should have paid more attention tbh, but live and learn.

Van Bastan is a great choice, probably the real reason i became an AC Milan fan when I was young because as much as id like to claim at that age i was drawn in by the excellence of Maldini and co it was his genious up front that did it. The man was so good Milan kept him under contract for years after his injury iirc incase he ever made a return.

great great player, but no real world cup impact from him, which i would consider important in a world cup draft.

I know I'm setting myself up for a dramatic fall but with two picks till mine if my pick get's chosen my Lloyd or Titan I really will break down. Life just won't be worth livin. I have no plan b and this player is so instrumental to my team.

I was so sickened when I found out that I couldn't pick di Stefano, I wouldn't have noticed either before Mitch reminded me in a pm :pac:

He was so unlucky, was available for 4 world cups and didn't appear in any of them :(

Yup,took me a while to figure out I couldn't take him, same with another player, and another who isn't retired.

Defensive midfielder. Titan if you take him I'll hold a permanent grudge. Please tell me your looking for a goalie.

Ya,it was him,I was watching people go,and when I saw Shearer go,I was like wtf,how does he go over Ronaldo, then a few hours later,I realised no one could take Ronaldo.

Yeh I was gonna pick di Stefano when I couldn't get Bobby Moore (still suicidal over that) then I read the wikipedia pages of a few of the choices I was considering....genuinely thought di Stefano had played at a few world cups

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,750 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Really LL? I was only a couple of picks ahead of you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,766 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    finally Garrincha goes.

i would have been appalled if he'd not been picked.

yes, i've only seen clips, and heard stories, but the same can be said for much of Pele's career.

to be recognised at the 2nd greatest Brazilian player ever should be reason enough to be picked in this round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,579 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

    Baresi is a great pick.

I actually was completely ready to pick Garrincha until Pelé fell to me. I was sure I'd never get Pelé at the fifth pick and was happy with Garrincha.

The only thing I was slightly concerned about picking him was that he wouldn't be hugely well known to everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,766 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Baresi was very high up my list of possibilities, but then i realised i had a plum position in picking for the round.

Garrincha is one that could easily not be known, but i'd hope boardsies would know better.

same goes for people like Moore, and especially Puskas.

It was really th eonly concern I had about picking him, I was still going to.

But when someone like Pelé falls to you somehow it's not a pick you can turn down.

he is the '1st best' Brazilian after all.

Fwiw, Pele claims that Garrincha (as well as George Best) were better players than him. No small praise from a man who loves himself, but we all know what Pele's opinion means :P
