Does anyone know where to find the question and answer pack referred to on page 13 of the tax toolkit? Theres 37 questions on groups. I cant find it on the website?

Guys, so with a week to go, I'm beginning to freak out here. Like I check here once a day to see what people are saying but it's all just so much.

I keep working away but there always seems to be more to do. It seems like I'll never be prepared enough for these cursed exams.

    How's everyone else feeling?

Pretty much the same. I'm out my feet most of the time. No study leave for me this time round because I was repeating the year and at this stage I am completely wrecked. Not feeling good at all.

I'm still really struggling with FR and Tax- currently just trying to keep calm and focused so that my brain is still working next week :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭aca101

FR is a nightmare altogether...its almost pointless doing prof 3 papers for it as they absolutely pale in comparison in terms of difficultly...its ridiculous.

Are we allowed bring tax legislation into the tax exam? Anyone know the criteria for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Vaioer

    Yeah,

I'm smoked in FR, I'd nearly accept failing it now if it meant passing the other three.

Can't do a consolidation properly(always mess up the reserves) means that I don't have a hope of passing as it just freaks me out for the rest for paper.

    Roll on next Friday(afternoon)

Is it the theory revision pack you want? It's too big to put up on here but if you PM me i'll forward it on
WHAT question pack is that? is that the pack missing lots of solutions?

Right - for financial reporting I think Iv done as much as I can muster on consolidation: subsidiaries / associates / disposals of subsidiaries / consolidated SoCI, SoFP, SoCF. Oh yeah - and foreign currency consolidation as well.

Then I did a wee bit on EPS. Didnt do that many examples but hopefully nothing too varied comes up.

I haven't really had time to look at joint ventures / employee benefits. Thats what I will probably try and fit in before the exam.

What have y'all done so far/still to do?

    and auditing:

thought i knew it all but started reading it again this morning and realised i cant remember a thing. iv been hammering the other subjects = obviously brain space is maxed out. back to square one...

I dont think you can bring in the tax legislation into the tax exam. In FR what do you think of the chances of partnerships coming up. Our lecture did not cover them because he said they wont come up..but you never really know do you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

I think your lecturer knows best to be fair. Theres enough things to be worrying about ffs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 263 ✭✭SL10

Partnership accounts aren't even mentioned in the competency statement so i very much doubt they will come up- they are a big part of the CAP1 syllabus but i dont think we need to worry about them

Financial - Hard to know, Im doing a day of consolidation tomorrow, Ive ratios done and EPS. Deferred tax holy god what a disaster! Know the standards so so just hoping for a nice exam not gonna happen but :(

Tax - Going to be a day before job im afraid, done Corp Tax and Losses and CGT and Stamp Duty know the bare minimum a 12 hour day next thursday will hopefully stand me well.

SFMA - Hard to call, have done WACC, EVA, Budgeting, Varience Analysis, Ratios, FX Hedging, Company Valuations and Investment Appraisal Have my notes and toolkit well indexed so hopefully will be able to wing a theory question if one pops up.

Audit - Have done feck all for this, I just hope for a good exam, I work in audit so hopefully that will help a small bit, have a good knowledge of substantative etc!

All in all not good im just hoping im fit to give the questions on the paper a good rattle, nice layouts etc to keep the examiner sweet!

Audit. did audit reports and practised a few case studies.

sfma. need to learn interest risk, and maybe valuations again only really did one or two q's.

fr. know most stuff. except ias 19. and the only case study i cant get out properly is the mock for some reason. I hope the section b on the day is not as dificult as the mock.

tax. need to do acquisitions tax

i would do well to pass them all i think at this stage

Can you bring book sinto the sfma exam? For that matter are any of the exams open book? ( Possibly stupid question)

....would offer a glimmer of hope.

is that actually a serious question??! not that i'm overly prepared or even that confident but if you don't know this much i'd be gettin nervous

Covered pretty much like everyone else.

For SFMA i didn't cover budgeting though, didn't think that was on the course??

i haven't done it anyway - so hope not!

    Brilliant!

That removes any lingering thoughts i had of making a half attempt at covering it. i don't have any more room.

    Post of the year.

On a side note. I tried some of the new exam question packs that were given out this year for Fin. Rep.

    I'm quite worried now...

yeah i'm worried bout it too, haven't put enough time into f.r.

did the mock case study and thought it was horrific, the solution made things twice as confusing.

my plan is to launch straight into section b and do the 2 short questions and try and leave as much time as possible for the case study

Yea serious question,Thats great news, there i was reading and trying to learn off the ias's. So can you bring in all the syllabus books? surely u could just work off a similar example question thats in the book that they give in the exam? and fin rep. for eg, can we bring in question packs and solutions?Things are looking up,suppose time would be an issue though...

    Sniff.. Sniff...

    I smell a troll

i dont think theres a point in studying loads of ias' at this point. breaking your back when it may not be needed. maybe do the few that are likely?? 8 10 12 19 20 32/39 37 38 blank everything else maybe

i dont think the exam will be as tough as the mock. they need to give you a chance at passing

anyway good luck at this stage people.

You've left out a rake of stuff there man. The way I see it, which standards could they justify as putting in as a Section B question (potentially) on their own?

The only ones that jump to my mind are IAS 7, 11, 12 (i pray they don't), 16, 17, 32/39, 33 and Ratio Analysis (What a gift that'd be).

When you think of it the other standards aren't big enough themselves to throw in as a question on their own. Although they could always do a repeat of the summer and throw 3 Consolidation Questions overall.

Hmm. Well i'm only speculating, but I think you're leaving a lot out of your line up there Seven-Iron. But I agree, it's best to cover off what you know well rather than trying to scramble for them all.

Ok, not entirely sure what u mean by troll.

    Nonetheless good luck everyone!
