always had free ntl normal channels ..till now

    dunno if anyone can help , anywway always had ntl (never the digital tv pack) for some reason when we moved here we never got a bill for the basic tv channels we had , anyway got broadband and phone off ntl before xmas then decided it wasnt for me and went wit sky plus , a few months after i now have no channels in kitchen or bedrooms and wondering if ntl cut me off for some reason after 9 years of being i think ! illegaly connected for the basic channels , any help appreciated

    They probably sent someone out after you ended the contract to snip the wire more than likely

    Yep but you did get away with 9 years of illegal TV so I would not complain too much

    ye im grand with it . just wondering what my options are now for tv upstairs and in kitchen , sky are wayy to expensive and dont need digital tv , is my best bet to get another dish for free channels ?? any help appreciated

    No channels are free on cable. You need to pay. If you didn't pay UPC are well within their rights to cut you off.

    As for your options now, they are as follows:

    - Take out a subscription to UPC or Sky.
    - Buy a satellite dish and free-to-air reciever and make do with free-to-air satellite (often termed "Freesat" though strictly speaking that refers to a particular specification of satellite reciever that isn't sold in Ireland).
    - Use a "rabbit ears" aerial and make do with the FTA Four for now and any extra channels that might come along if DTT ever launches (for which you will need to buy a DTT set top box).

    You can discuss free-to-air satellite and terrestrial in the relevant forums, but this thread is over.
