track individual visitors with google analytics

    Hi,

    ill be sending out a newsletter soon and i would like to track what users visit what pages via google analytics

    i plan to have the link to my website in the newsletter including thier email address : www.domain.com/index.php?email=person@domain.com

    does anyone know what i have to do in google analytics in order to be able to track this ?

    What you need is to setup a GA Campaign. This is a good starting point to find out more: http://www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55579

    What I would do is setup a campaign in GA called, say, EmailNewsletter, and then include the following link:
    http://www.domain.com/?utm_campaign=EmailNewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_source=person@domain.com

    So what you have there is a campaign called EmailNewsletter, this alone will give you a report on how many people visited your site. But the utm_medium and utm_source will tell you exactly who is visiting your site and how many times in the "All Traffic Sources" report. utm_source in this case is the individuals' email address.

    I'd imagine your needs are a bit more complicated but it should be fairly easy to setup with a bit of forward thinking and a mail-merge of some sort.

    thanks great Phil thansk looks like its exactly with i need.

    however if i use the link above do i have to set up a campaign in analytics or is it done automatically (i cant see where to set up a campagin in GA)

    IIRC you don't have to setup the campaign beforehand.
