Qashqai problem

    A friends nissan qashqai broke down today. The warning on dash said water in fuel filter.
    What could cause that?

    It is diesel engine, brand new, about 300 miles

    I take it it's diesel? The fuel filter traps any water in the diesel. On older diesels you could open a valve on the filter to vent the water - I don't know whether this is possible nowadays.

    If it have only got 300 on the clock it should be going straight back to the dealership to be sorted....

    I remember when my Dad had a Liteace in the 80's and had to regularly do that. I'm not sure either if it is still possible to do on modern diesels.

    it means diesel in tank has water in it and filter keeps it. But it can't operate properly because of the water and it needs to be replaced.


    If owner of car bought diesel he should switch petrol station. if diesel was in the tank when car is delivered, dealer should change his petrol station. I assume dealer doesn't buy cheaper diesel from somewhere else illegally.

    Was it just fuelled?

    The Insignia's are always giving the same warning and it's always after they've just been fuelled. It's usually just a reset on the computer - the sensor just seems to be very sensitive.

    fuelled last week, aa man has not seen problem before, says it may be injectors. Car being towed back to dealer.
