With regard to the ABC app, as good as it is, there isnt as much on it as onn the website. The programme episodes seem to be a bit random, which is quite annoying.

For instance I wanted to watch their new series Happy Town, as it's advertised on the app and has a link to the series premiere, but when you click the link it bringsmyou to the latest episode. I had to watch the season opener on my Mac as it's on the main ABC player there. It's not just that, it's the randomness of the episodes. So far there are four episodes of Happy Town somaftere watching the first episodemon the Mac, I checked the ipad app to see if the second was up. Indeed it was. Great I thought. Watched the second episode and looked for the third but that wasn't there either. The fourth episode Was though.

I realize that they maybe need a scaled down version of the main site but surely it makes sense to have some sort of order to the episodes?

Just a heads-up regarding 'Happy Town' adox.. it's been axed!

I watched the first episode and thought it was woeful myself!

Ha that was quick. I watched two. The first was pretty bad, except for the last couple of minutes and the second episode got very weird, which was helping things along a bit. It looked to be going down a very dark root and completely unattached to the premiere.

Download atomic browser from the US iTunes store and it's very impressive. The main advantage over Safari is the tabbed browsing which is really excellent on the iPad. 99cents so cheap enough.

Surely Apple will include tabbed browsing in a Safari update soon? Seems a huge oversight on their part.

Agreed, I use the iCab browser on my iPad just for the tabbed browsing. It also appear to keep more web pages cached (unlike safari) so if I switch from one tab(web page) to another I don't have to wait for the page to reload.

Re VPN I signed up to blackvpn for three months and it works perfectly. If you look a few pages back someone posted how to set it up and also a code which will give you three months for five dollars, and give an extra two weeks to the poster. If not I can post a code for you that will do the same.

Edit - here's the code blackvpn sent me: BUVWXBF. If you are signing up, use this code to get 3 months for $5. It will also give me an extra 2 weeks. They also send you instructions on setting up VPN on yout iPad which takes 2 minutes if that.

just tried to get the 3 month option using your code but it's kicking me out at the paypal stage and/or sending me to the Dutch paypal site. did you experience the same?

EDIT: Scratch that! Managed to get the Global Package for €10 for 3 months. My referral code is HBRZWNU if anyone wants to pass on the love and give me 2 free weeks whilst bagging themselves 2 months free.

Nice one. Was just starting to type a reply. I wish I had taken the global package now, especially as BBC iplayer works on the iPad.

Thanks btw, if you used my code. Hope someone picks yours up

yep, used your code! thought I'd shamelessly plug my own then!

too bad my ipad is one of the ones that locks up with video playback. it's going either back to belfast or apple said they may collect and return it. no one else here seems to be suffering this problem but lots of people stateside are. i'd rather make the trip to belfast so i can get my hands on a brand new one.

any ideas how to get iplayer onto the ipad? i have US itunes account. do i need a UK one too?

I don't think that there is an iplayer app. Think you have to just go through the website.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Hope you get sorted.

Theere isn't an app for iplayer on iTunes. You have to go to the BBC website and view the iplayer from there. Of course you csn then make your on app icon for the home screen.

Just used your code for a British account - €5 for 3 months so you should get an extra 2 weeks!

I'll be in Miami from Sunday for 10 days.. wonder how the iPad shortage is now.

I wonder should I ring ahead and reserve one, presuming they'll still do the reservation using your iTunes iD.

I would just in case. It was pure luck that I got one in NY. You have a good window though with 10 days. I'd give them a call either way and ask.

Anyone get a free vpn for ipad working? (For abc player / netflix)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,182 ✭✭✭alexlyons

Think I might ring ahead and reserve one as well. I was just going to chance my arm by ringing them and persuading them to hold one, didn't realise they'll do it with an iTunes ID.

I'll also join basquille with the photo outside the apple store! That's if I don't have to resort to best buy

I'm going to Miami in June.. so I'll probably pick it up but I'll be interested to hear how the 4.0 OS pans out.

I'm a big fan of simple browsing on the iPhone so a larger screen and faster processor suits me perfectly for on-the-couch browsing etc.

In my mind, it has it's flaws but I do think a lot of them will be addressed either in future OS updates from Apple or from good ol' Cydia (once it's been ported obvously).

Iphone is a good phone, Specially it is touch screen. I think it is good to have that kind of phone. :D There are lots of feature in that iphone. I can play my favorite musics while texting. :D

Reeder for iPad has been submitted. Looking forward to that. Using Feedler at the moment and it's quite slow. Reeder on the iPhone is a magnificent beast that proudly sits on page 1 of my apps.

Thanks a mill for the heads up about blackvpn guys. I just signed up and can now watch BBC iplayer on my iphone (currently watching eastenders!) and on my ipad (when I get around to buying it;))

I didn't realise that those codes provided by blackvpn can be used multiple times. Apparently each new person signing up gets 2 free months and the person whose code is used gets an extra 2 weeks.

At the risk of hijacking this thread, I would humbly submit my own code, which is QWRNRKR - feel free to use it if you want to sign up to blackvpn (every time you do, I get an extra 2 weeks:rolleyes:)

there, fixed that for you!!! tee hee.... :P

on a slightly related note, has anyone got a way around the netflix issue of having a US credit card?

These are all rss reader right? I've never actually used a rss reader but am becoming more and more interested in trying one, although know not too much about them.

There's loads of them. I use Reeder, because I use Google Reader. I have one set of feeds, and I can use them across multiple platforms (OSX, iPhone iOS, Android etc).

Most feeds are just the headlines with brief news, but some (Engadget, Kotatu, TUAW that I use) are full stories which is handy for loading fast on an Edge network connection.

If you are going the route, I found Reeder on the iPhone to be the best. Tried Netnewswire and Feedler, but not as quick or easy to use as Reeder.
