i think you'll fine that the focal point of the shot - the lifebelt housing - is about one third from the top of the frame...

Aye, the lifebelt housing is exactly on a third. Might not have come across like it but I'm actually cursing the rule of thirds! Not that there's anything wrong with it, just think my brain is built to constantly use the damn rule.
