Pace boxes sticking on 4:3

    Hi folks,
Am having issues with both of my Pace boxes. It would appear that after watching the Disney Channel (613) - my daughter is a big Hannah Montana fan :), my Pace boxes are stuck on 4:3 output. Switching to Sky News or any other channel that's normally in 16:9 and the image is cut to 4:3 (like it would appear on analogue, truncated on both sides). Changing from 4:3 to Letterbox to WideScreen makes no difference, the only thing I can do is a soft reboot (help/yellow button), and it's fine again. During the day, the box is on the kids' channels (Nick / Nick Toons / Nick Jnr / Disney)

I've noticed this over the past few weeks - anyone else?

I don't have the Disney channels so can't check but according to this that channel is not widescreen, as are some others (e.g. Comdey Central, all the Nickelodeons, most music channels).

If your TV is widescreen you should have it on the "widescreen" setting, not letterbox (you have reduced vertical resolution using this).

Widescreen switching signal is broken on some channels, e.g. TV3, Discovery - they show a mixture of 4:3 and 16:9 but are stuck on one, and you have to manually change the mode on your TV. Sky News might be broken too, I don't know.

There's a few channels that are watched here that aren't widescreen (mostly the kids' ones), but it only seems to be the Disney Channel that locks the 4:3 output on the pace box. (Both my TV's are widescreen and will stretch a 4:3 signal to fit (unless I manually select 4:3 on the TV (the box is always set to 16:9)).

I've just confirmed it again just now, I can set the pace to any 4:3 channel bar Disney (613) and when I go back to a widescreen channel I get the full picture. When I choose 613 then go to any widescreen channel, I get the cropped 4:3 channel as if I'd set the Pace box to 4:3.

To judge by the number of responses here, it's not a common issue :) I'll give UPC a bell on Tuesday and see what they say.

As an aside, are the newer boxes any good (in case they have to swap out the Pace ones)? Will I still be able to hook up my Media Center PC to it (via scart / ir blaster)?
