I would like to thank the AH moderator Dr.Bollocko for his recent actions in this thread.

I am aware of the PM system available, but I think that a more public approach is necessary.

The thread in question was about a tragic incident which happened yesterday and resulted in the loss of a member of the national ambulance service.
Bollocko was very fair in dealing with the usual crap that seems to seep its way into AH threads.

The usual thanks whores tried their hand, as usual, and were dealt with.

I don't see how thanks whores can justify making puns or quick jokes about something so tragic. It really sickens me to see people do this. So thank you to bollocko for dealing with this fairly.

In what seems to be a rare occasion, this is a positive feedback on the actions of a moderator.

    Thanks Dr.Bollocko.

AH is no place for threads like that. It should have been locked or moved to the Emergency forum.

It will be nothing more than a stick to beat the mods with, by their own actions, when someone else puts up another thread of a similar nature and I don't mean a celebrity one.

Mods applying their own personal reasoning, rather than that of the Forum or spirit of the forum is never going to end well.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Not having a go.

I've never posted in AH but I've read it for a number of years and I've always felt that it was light-hearted banter not lets make a statement to see how many people I can shock.

The fun seems to be gone unless you're making some kind crude comment.

Yeah it is more of less for light hearted banter, of a sorts. Some serious banter at times to.

Having "normal" condolence type threads there, is to me I might add, a bit like a news papers having death notices in with the "Funnies section"

dr.bollocko and I may have had our differences in the past but I must commend his modding in that thread and for just reintroducing common sense into AH, which he simply seams to have reams of.

There are plenty of serious discussions in after hours. It is not a piss take forum. It's a discussion forum besieged with piss takers.

And you and your co-Mods are doing a great job in it despite people doing their utmost to make it difficult for you

It is nice to see some positive feedback and it is much deserved

I remember reading a comment from an Admin (DeV I think, but I could be wrong) in regards After Hours, where he described it as a pub, where people stand in different groups talking about different things, sometimes inspiring other conversations, people moving from one group to another, and people rarely remember what they were talking about the day before.

At one table there are people talking about puns, at another table people about something serious like the accident above, and so on. People should have the decency to know not to make jokes at the table about the accident, and nobody will bring it up at the table telling jokes. It's just common sense.

AH has been described as a "pub like place" many times. But I have never seen the "people moving from table to table bit before". In fact I have never seen that behaviour in a pub tbh unless there was a larger group of people in a pub who had many tables. Then the movement is not from one unknown crowd of people to another.

AH is not the place of condolence threads about deaths that made the media. What next? Zoo personnel killed by elephant? Car mechanic who died tragically while car fell on him?

If someone dies and due to being in the media it gets posted on AH.... is it safe to say a condolence thread is a OK?

Because that is going to cause the mods grief in the long run, in my opinion.

I get the discussion about the celebrity ones and the debate surrounding them but as I said above someone, somewhere needs to really draw a line under this. Or over it. Possible through it. I can't remember the expression.

Under it seems right but doesn't at the same time.

To be safe we can draw a line under, though and over it.:p

Moderating via common sense is to be commended. More of this and less of the knee-jerkism, tbh imo fwiw lmao.

AH is not the place of condolence threads about deaths that made the media.

    They are NOT "condolence threads".

Perhaps they may read like that when people start to RIP in every second post but that is just a traditional thing to say when somebody dies so they post it.

AH is a froum where current affairs are it's life blood.

And so when people die that are in the public eye, there are bound to be a threads about it.

Moving these threads just because some muppets can't have some common sense, is not the answer as far as I am concerned.

Let's try and lose the muppets instead.

There ARE threads though that become pretty much purely RIP/condolence ones - intentionally or not. They are not conducive to discussion and would be better off not in AH, in my opinion.
