It seems that nowadays everybody is kind of de-sensitised to everything. We've basically seen it all in the movies and nothing really impresses/shocks us anymore. Another gangland murder......meh........water found on mars.....who cares.......HSE fúcks up something........whats new.....

So my question is, when was the last time something genuinely impressed/shocked you?
It can be as serious or as light-hearted as you like.
For me it has to be when I saw this guy for the first time

Driving through Longford one day... it's the most illiterate town in Ireland & has a large population of African immigrants - not shocking in itself, but what was, is that someone had hung a banner off one of the bridges, saying; "NIGERS OUT".

that at the end of prime time the other night they had a rolling list of towns where child porn had been downloaded, and 2 of my closest country towns were on the list. in fact, almost every mid-sized town in the country was on it.

    now that's f'uckin shocking

You were genuinely impressed by the amount of child porn found in mid sized towns?

When I saw Riverdance on the Eurovision I was really impressed. I was only a teenager but I remember thinking that they were going to make bags of money.

And the last time I was in Dingle watching the sun set. Amazing.

I was at the regional fleadh a few weeks ago, I had a wander round some of the competitions. Some of the people really impressed me, and I don't impress easily

There's a guy who trains in the same gym as me who I also recognise from the area I grew up in.

He has a condition - I'm not sure of the name - where his limbs are at odd angles. He needs crutches to walk and even then it's difficult.

Yet every time I'm in there I see him training. Sometimes it takes him five minutes just to get into position before beginning, I dread to think how long a full session takes.

It really has to be seen to fully appreciate it, truly inspirational.

Was cycling to Bansha yesterday evening, near the Glen of Aherlow, and the picturesque countryside was a joy to behold.
Despite being a Tipp man,Pat Horgan's 2nd goal (from open play) last Sunday for Cork (hurlers;for you ''palers'' among us) was fantastic.Tipp's response was not.......

Sky+ and the iPhone still impress me.

Also there are little baby ducklings in the lake in Blackrock Park that are cheering me up each lunchtime this week.

Unfortunately I can't think of anything that genuinely shocks me any more.

That's pretty impressive alright, OP. Btw, the guy reminds me of Jason Newsted when he has the mic up to his mouth.

Every time i see my little niece, who's about a year and a half. I only get to see her maybe once a month, but every time i see her she's totally changed and has learnt loads of new things. She's such a hard little nut-nothing ever phases her!

I know all kids do the same, but i'm biased :D

Bought a pack of ham slices the last day with one of those resealable thingies on it and it actually worked.

I was impressed and that's how sad my life is right now. :o

The last time I was really impressed was when a group of battle trained soldiers with scant regard for their own saftey and armed only with fully automatic weapons, boarded a boat and confronted a gang of vicious, stick wielding thugs .... (I know, I know - couldn't resist)

Seriously though, watched a programme not so long ago about the people in Haiti and how they are faring out in the aftermath of the earthquake. Despite all the suffering and the fact that they haven't a pot to piss in, there are some truly inspirational stories of man's humanity to man.

For this reason, I have decided not to bawl an moan about our own financial woes for two weeks - admit it or not, we don't have a bad lot in the grand scheme of things.

    Yore ma, last night?

    My ma?

    Ooooohhhh.... Now I get it..

    HA HA HA HA HA....

You are saying that you had sex with my mother last night,
and that you were impressed by it...

AH HA HA HA HA HA HA..
    Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllll.

That is just so witty and intelligent.
Remind me to nominate you for post of the year.
    Seriously,

Where did you hear that joke?
I never knew that using the suggestion of sex with somebody else's mother could be so funny.
Have you ever considered a career in comedy writing?
You could use that post as part of your C.V

    Oh wow, a sarcastomete.. BOOOOOM!

Hopefully that doggys blood will help some other familys pet recover from an op or a road traffic accident quickly!

Like somebody posted earlier, I always get immpressed by the sheer amount of knowledge toddlers can soak up. My niece on my wifes side in incredible, she's only gone 2 but can count to 20, has a better level of Irish than most junior cert students and can put her own shoes on. Her level of intelligence always impresses me.

Now that is cool. Wow. And I've made 19 blood donations of my own. What a class dog.

    Impressed?
The last time I set foot in Crumlin Hospital. The nurses and surrounding staff were excelent despite those above them on their backs daily making cuts.

    Shocked?
THe last time I heard of how low a sentence a rapist got.
