35 minutes of eruption time lapsed

Tried to make this one as clear as possible.

That is absolutey stunning! Do you know the name of the piece of music used? it works really beautifully with the video; captures the atmosphere extremely well! :)

Given the met forecast of ash on the website http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/pressoffice/2010/volcano/ashconcentration/

for 9am tomorrow, does anyone want to hazard a guess for what Monday morning is going to be like? I'm booked on SNN-LGW in the am and need to be in the UK for a course starting tues morning. I'm getting pretty close to booking the bus as a back up just in case.

    Cheers,

UK Outlook for Sunday 23 May 2010 to Sunday 6 Jun 2010:

A northwesterly weather type is expected bringing some spells of unsettled weather with temperatures close to or just below normal for the time of year and little hint of any prolonged warmer spells at the moment. There are indications of above average rainfall amounts during the period, firstly over parts of northern UK, later the south appears to be wettest, with generally close to average rainfall at other times.

    Updated: 1239 on Sat 8 May 2010

Looks like the north west wind direction will cause disruption with the ash in the long term also. Thats if volcano is still spewing ash of course.

What are the typical wind directions surrounding us for the next few months?(summer) Would South Westerlies be the most favourable to keep the ash away?
Also is it just N or NW winds that will cause us problems?

    Thanks. :)

Man, I am tempted to fly to Iceland and find that webcam so I can wear some sort of scary mask in it. Freak out some volcano watchers.

Looking less likely and looking messy out there looking at the latest advisory map from VAAC:

    http://metoffice.com/aviation/vaac/data/VAG_1273381748.png

    Latest from IAA:

Based on current information, Dublin, Cork, Waterford, and Shannon airports will be open until 0100 hrs local on Monday 10th May. Donegal, Sligo, and Ireland West (Knock) airports will operate normally until 1500 hrs Sunday, when restrictions will apply, due to the high risk exclusion zone.

Restriction will also apply to Galway airport from 1600 hrs and to Kerry airport from 2200 hrs. The position regarding any further restrictions or changes will be confirmed at 1430 hrs today.

Just got a text from Aer Lingus. Their flight today at 16:40 from Lyon to Dublin is cancelled.

Oh well I'll have to book another day in the hotel.

Trying to get the ferry from Scotland to Belfast and drive down to Galway today. Does anyone know about renting a car. Want to collect at Scotland and return in Galway. Do they do this? Anywhere open on Sundays?

Some of the larger companys like Hertz or Avis would probably allow this.

I wouldn't have thought so - usually rental companies will only allow you drop off within country you have rented the car. What would they do with an 'english' reg rental car in Galway? Somebody would have to bring it back before they can rent it out again.

Just seeing glimpses of volcano now again this morning on webcams as cloud clears. Still pumping out ash.

    Looking at the charts http://hraun.vedur.is/ja/Katla2009/gosplott.html

it appears that activity is slowing down, with a bit of luck that means that the eruptions will stop soon.

    There's been 2 quakes in the past hour @ 9.41 & 9.42.

Not necessarily, like look at may 5th it had slowed down - yet the volcano was going crazy from may 5th up until now

Beginning to wonder does the volcano thread even belong on the weather forum since it is having no effect on the weather whatsoever lol.

Working on the principle that the tremors are related to magma flowing into the volcano, the slow down appears to show that the volcano is now "full". After the current phase of eruptions have passed, hopefully it won't be followed by an increase in seismic activity as yet nore magma goes in to replace the stuff just erupted out.

With a bit of luck, it'll just blow this lot out and then rest for a while.

Tremor activity is not linked to ash production. The tremors on those graphs usually indicate lava movement which usually happens during a phase of the eruption when the volcano is less explosive.

That doesnt match the Met office information at all. Even the current time.
I would love to believe that, but it seems to be very iffy. It seems to predict the volume of ash coming out of the volcano as well, which is doubtful.

    Hi All,

Is it way too early to know what the ash situation will be like around the 24th of May??
