Creating system diagrams

Can anyone recommend a tool (preferably on the mac) that I can draw nice looking system diagrams? I need to represent the software stack of a system i.e Tomcat, java, spring, JDAP, MySQL etc for a presentation and I want to to look nice. Any ideas?

Illustrator is great but pricey.
Inkscape is a great free alternative.
