Random question, but is the college still open during the summer yeah?

As in are students still allowed into the library over the summer and use the gym and pool and such?

Yup, you can do all them things. The only difference is that campus is eerily quiet. And that everywhere seems to close earlier.

They have an awesome collection of popular science books! I imagine there is decent fiction in the English section, though I've never found it. I've never wandered further than the science section. Lol.

I used to love the summer months in Maynooth :) You'll find that al the Science postgrads are still around, doing their regular hours. :)

Not sure about the pool - there tends to be summer camp on no? And also conferences on the South campus use the pool. So you might want to check that.

I've used the library over the summer before though. And they do have lots of english literature - I got 1984 out there last year, or maybe it was first year. Good book anyway. Kind of disturbing...

Summer in Maynooth is actually the basis for the Lovin' Spoonful's Summer in the City. Little known fact.

Rumour has it it is also the basis for Grease's Summer Nights. This is unconfirmed.

Boring, Dry and Devoid of any intelligent life.

Maynooth is so peaceful during the summer. No super fat birds clogging up the pool either. Sorry girls

I miss being able to have a summer but yeah they'll still be open. Might wanna check the working hours though.

I don't know if that was intended as a joke LeixlipRed, but what an unthinking, arrogant and tasteless comment. I mean seriously, if someone overweight is swimming in the pool, they are likely self-concious enough about their weight already and probably trying to do something about it. If anyone 'clogs' the pool, it's the slow people, and fat does not necessarily equal slow. I really hope you can 'walk the walk' when it comes to swimming and aren't one of the plodders yourself, making snide observations like that.

Remind me what you look like anyway, so if you ever start drowning I can ignore you...

You, my friend, take the internet far too seriously.

She was half woman, half fish. Terrible in the kitchen, but a bloody good swimmer.

Yes, I probably do. Though it came across more rant-ish than I intended.

Then again, maybe you don't take it seriously enough. I don't know. I just don't think your comment was helpful, or particularly considerate.

I don't like to be helpful on the internet. These people can't be helped. Anyway, we know it's the long hairs that really clog up the swimming pool....

I'm from here and after being in the college for the year, the town is going to seem even more dull! Luckily I got a job..(marks and spencers called me offering my job for the summer!) so it won't be that bad!

The summer is the best time in Maynooth.

Ah yeah, it's desperately quiet, great for studying for the repeats which I for one will be doing, never being one to pass up on an exam period.

Anyone fancy living with barleybanquo? Fun guaranteed. Oh, and tidiness/cleanliness, it's true!

Lol are you looking for a room to rent? Does this count as advertising? Smiles sweetly and hopes to get away with it.

Summer is glorious in Maynooth. Bring on the 12-hour working days!

    Ghost town!

Ok yes, you got me there.

But I should probably point out that I'd NEVER refer to a learner as a plodder. Just swimmers who think they're great, but really aren't. There's usually a difference.

In other news, I noticed yesterday that the library has an entire collection of Hitchcock DVDs. Might be paying a visit to that section again over the summer.

The trampoline club will still have training sessions during the summer!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,352 ✭✭✭funky penguin

Actually, alot of the clubs do, don't they? A good reason to join one if you're around for the summer. I would assume most of the bigger, more competitive ones (ie rugby, soccer) have pre-season training as well.
