Final grade discrepancy?

    I know this is a bit late in the year but I only noticed my GPA recently and thought I should investigate it further. Last year I failed a subject and repeated it in Autumn. I passed it and ended my course (level 7) with a 60.70% GPA.

    However I was only awarded a Merit 2 degree. But a Merit 1 is awarded for a least 60% GPA?

    If my claims were correct in saying that I should have been awarded a Merit 1, would it be too late to get the awarded degree changed to reflect my grade?

    I'm afraid you're wrong, a Merit 1 is 70%, not 60%.

    According to the GMIT Academic Code of Practice No.3 for an Ordinary Degree (level 7):

    Pass - at least 40%
    Merit 2 - at least 50%
    Merit 1 - at least 60%
    Distinction - at least 70%

    Did you repeat any subjects? Sometimes if you repeat your mark is capped at 40% and even if your average is over the 60 mark, your award is capped too.
