Did Willie Walsh know that the UK airspace would be open?? Very risky thing to do, flights coming from North America and Africa according to radarvirtuel, just spotted a Thomas Cook plane from Greece up around Holland bound for Gatwick.

The airlines must have known that the airspace was gonna be open???

TBH id say there was some negotiating and BA told their flights to come in and if needs be can be diverted to Shannon and other EURO airports. Not a bad decision if you ask me, im sure passengers would prefer to be stuck closer to home!

Katla had a strange spike in tremor activity about two hours ago, activity suddenly shot up by 20%. Odd.

That wasnt a tremor at Katla, it was a small 1.4 earthquake right under the erupting volcano, the first earthquake that close to the area of eruption for several days.

Looks like Wille faced them off and they backed down - they have changed their analysis of engine tolerance levels to the ash clouds - what a farce.

Well has anyone seen any spectactular sunsets because of the ash ?
Its been going on a week now the eruptions ,I wonder will the weather start to be affected?

Last Saturday there was a spectacular sunset, it looked like the sun was going to go behind a cloud as it set, it didn't as it was thick haze and it went a strange red colour.

Fairly dramatic drop in tremors at the "esk" and "god" stations in the last hour.

    Hello folks,

I saw an aeroplane flying over Tipperary town at exactly 10pm tonight. The news reports say Aer lingus and Ryanair have cancelled schedules until tomorrow at least. I reckon this plane was flying from Shannon to Dublin. Test flight maybe?

Interesting alright. Probably fairly insignificant on the grander scale though judging by this graph for ESK

Yeah probably nothing, I just thought it looked similar to the sudden drop in tremors right before the April 14th eruption http://hraun.vedur.is/ja/Katla2009/gosplott.html

It does look similar alright. I'm trying to figure out what the different scales (amplitude) on those graphs are all about. Are they dynamic or different reading or what

Also confusing on the time scale if you look at the spikes for the 14th on these two graphs..

What was the actual time of the eruption?

EDIT ... it was 01:15 UTC obviously .... says it on the graph :)

Can't agree with that Graces - he comes across as a perfectly normal and intelligent young lad for his age.

I'd be more concerned about the ones in hoods sneaking around at night after a visit to the local head shop up to no good, rather than the ones on here interested in Meterology. ;)

Well on that we will have to agree to differ; the rudeness I mean. He bites! If he were a puppy he would be muzzled!!!!

But yes of course, compared to the hoodies.....

But the standard of literacy at that age appalls.

The plume is now blowing N/NW from Enya and at low altitude. Ironically this brings the plume from Enya across HEKLA and the Hekla webcam is now picking it up which coulld cause yet another rumour today.

09.46 The emission of ash from Iceland's erupting Eyjafjjoell volcano has fallen to 'insignificant' levels, one of the country's leading seismologists said.
