I'm pretty rubbish at FFA games, prefer team based ones cos I like backing people up and having people beside me rather than everyone gunning for everyone, FFa is usually full of campers and cheaters anyway

Agreed, band of bro's pushing towards the enemy, watching the flanks, protecting the objective, picking up after fallen comrades..................then some bollix enemy sniper blows the back of yer head off from your own base:eek:

well everyone has pretty much covered everything here . if i was to add anything id say pick a gun and stick with it . not a lot of people i know like that approach their all about having a different gun for different maps and games etc but i think after a few games you settle down with a gun and get used to how it works. oh and pump the trigger it works better than just letting loose full blast

I bought an Xbox and the game about a month ago (which reminds me, sort out Xbox live membership), however, I'd first played about three or four months ago with my friends.

I'd probably clocked up at least six hours of play before actually starting.

Basic advice - finish the single player game.

Next, if you've got friends who play games, play with them, split screen or whatever.

Next - go on to youtube and look up Modern Warfare 2 videos. There are tutorials out there, and can help with basic tactics.

Use the UAV is another one, unless you're playing hardcore, if you see your radar get fuzzy, someone is nearby with a scrambler perk, if the enemy is blocking out uav message comes up, look up in the air, see the little glider thing flying about? shoot that down.
If you see a teammate run ahead around a corner, hear gunfire and their green triangle is gone, they were just killed, dont go legging around that same corner as you'll get your head blown off.

In team games your team mates have their names over their heads, enemies have nothing unless you get them in your sights, then you see their name in red.

If you think you should have killed someone, watch the killcam. Sometimes it looks like you haven't fired a single shot. Basically, your connection in that game is slow, better off quitting and joining a new game.

Skip maps you hate. Life's too short! I quit if derail, skidrow or underpass are up next and no one will skip!

Have you played cod4?the one bit of advice i can give you is try forget other fps to a certain point,i know you point and fire but all these games have different set-ups,you have to learn the game.I have played a lot as in over 20 days and this game has become boring, once you learn the game and the maps its like it becomes second nature .When you run 1 direction remember the last time you played the same map and you were coming for the other side? remember how long it took you to get to a certain point where you engaged the on coming team?and remember the spawn points when your playing as well.As much as ull watch your radar(i play hardcore and nothing else)new spawns are a big killer. When playing team games hang back but keep with the team and use ranged weapons till you get a feel for the game and equip 3,4,5 on your kill streaks with hardline and ull have so many you wont use them in a match

best of luck and soon it will become so predictable you could play with your eyes closed

The predictability thing is a bit annoying after a while, every map has some point that everyone runs to, with Derail with the big building in the centre, with estate its obviously the house, with Afghan its either the bunkers or the hill overlooking the plane, I actually prefer the games where everything doesnt turn into a "we advance, they advance, change sides, repeat" game, like the other night on Terminal it was absolute chaos all over the map, nobody camping (shock!) at any point, just running and gunning, it was marvellous

its crazy how easy it gets, theres corners that i fire before i go around and get kills and i know its not real to life but iv mastered jumping and shooting.these are things in the game that need to be cleaned out and removed because people take advantaged of them, its not cheating its learning the game for what it it. remember when you change your weapon your first jump is always higher leaving you get places you normally cant and jump higher when firing!

Can you explain this one again?

If you change your weapon while jumping, you jump higher? Or did you mean something else.

you know when you see guys in places and you try get there and you can never seem to jump high enough?well if you watch them they all change there weapon from there main to there secondary or vice versa before they jump and your first jump after the weapon change will be higher then the rest! This is what i mean when you learn the game you learn the flaws and how to use them to your advantage give you an advantage other people dont have hence giving you a better score:D

Are you sure its not just because you can move quicker when you are wielding a smaller gun ?
Hence you can jump higher ?

    Can you "Strafe Jump" ?
Could you explain to me how to do it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

Strafe jumping is tricky but you can do it with practice, theres loads of videos on youtube explaining how to do it, what bugs me are the videos that show you how to get out of or on top of some map you're not supposed to, and in the videos you see a guy with a friend, some tactical insertions, shotgun jumping, all just to get on a ledge or roof. All good and fun in a pivate match but do that in a public game? As if you'd actually get the time to spend nearly 5 minutes clambering up a building through pixel perfect jumping, someone would see you and just pop a round in your head :)

Your speed around the map is dictated by your primary. So if you have a LMG and a Handgun, when you swap to handgun you still run at LMG speed.

Do weapon attachments add to your weight and reduce running speed? I'm 99% postitive my class with the Famas and silencer makes me run slower than the Famas with red dot.

You guys on this forum are pretty obsessed with it (and may or may not have lives) and I don't think I could ever compete.

You may or may not be good at Modern Warfare 2. By you are quality at the oul backhanded insult. I commend you :D

Never heard that before, and I'd be suprised if they added in that complexity. But you'd never know. Here's the movement speeds:

On movement speed (player speed is determined by the weapon in his primary slot):
SMGs and Sniper Rifles have a Speed of 100%
Assault Rifles have a Speed of 95%
Machineguns have a Speed of 87.5%
Riot Shield has a Speed of 80%
A player can pick up another weapon and keep the movement speed of the weapon he spawned with.

nope you dont have to change weapon you could press the button to change your weapon and press in it quickly again so it doesn't change and that will do it for you.i can strafe jump perfectly and from doing it with the shot gun and the radius of its blast you have a 50% better chance of a head shot when aiming perfectly straight. Its not really something i could explain,as i said you learn it,like anything in the game ull do it and ull go "how did i get away with that"? but if you notice the distance away the target was and how high in the jump you were and remember and try repeat it becomes second nature,if you search on like theres charts that tell you everything about thwe game, ballistics of the weapons, heights you jumps, speeds ,damage percentages and if you can understand this it will make it easyer
